Spurs Considering Making a Bid for Amare Stoudemire

Post#1 » by retrospect24 » Wed Jan 27, 2010 6:44 am

Another intriguing suitor could emerge in the bidding for Phoenix Suns star Amar’e Stoudemire: the San Antonio Spurs.

Multiple league sources say the Spurs’ front office has researched and debated pursuing Stoudemire to play alongside Tim Duncan.

There are questions for the Spurs to answer: Would they be willing to part with the personnel – including possibly Manu Ginobili – to make a deal happen?

Do the Spurs want to re-sign Stoudemire to a contract extension and swell their payroll?

Do they believe Stoudemire could be the difference for their fifth championship?

All questions with no clear answers for the Spurs – yet.

They'd win a title for sure.

It'd be like when they won with a 67 year old Robinson. Except Duncan is Robinson and way younger. And Stoudemire is Duncan.

Ginobilli would rape in that Suns system.

C-Stoudemire
PF-Duncan
SF-Richard Jefferson
PG-Tony Parker

lmao

Kerr's going to do it. I have a feeling. This has been the plan all along....destroy the team from the inside. First, strip them of all of their defenders: Kurt Thomas, Boris Diaw, Shawn Marion, Raja Bell. Then, strip them of their draft picks. Finally, rip out their heart and send Amare to San Antonio so that they can win a title with him.

It's going to happen, isn't it?

Oh god.

They'd have to give up Manu.

Would work for SA, George Hill has been solid and TP comes around during playoff time.

As for Phoenix, Manu would do well there, but it's hardly Phoenix rising from the ashes.

If they can offer Blair, Gino and a few first rounders it wouldn't be so bad but I don't see it happening...

If San Antonio offered Manu, Jefferson, and Blair . . . for . . . Amare and Jason Richardson, I think the Suns would have to do it. Have to. Here are the advantages for the Suns:

1) Manu and Nash is one of the most creative and exciting backcourts in NBA history (provided Manu has enough left in the tank).

2) Get rid of J-Rich. Most Suns fans seem to think he's a bad fit and nearly untradeable.

3) Replace Amare with Blair -- the young prospect they reportedly are looking for, and one on a remarkably cheap contract for the next three years. Suns management loves the word 'Cheap.'

4) Bring Richard Jefferson back home (or at least to where he played college ball and where he is still active in the community) and hope that Nash can work his magic and help Jefferson become an all-star again.

Aren't the Spurs known as a defensive team? Adding Amare would be hilarious.

I'm convinced that Amare will either stay in Phoenix or head to New Jersey (even though I don't like NJ's deal for either team). I wanted Amare really bad last year but that ship has sailed for me.

This actually makes a lot of sense. However, i'm scared Pop might lose his remaining hair after watching Amare's defense after 3 games

The Spurs have won championships in the past thanks to great defensive teams. There's no doubt this makes the Spurs a contender though but I'm not seeing them competiting with the Lakers or Nuggets.

Would Kerr consider trading Amare to a division rival?

I think if Amare had a legitimate coaching staff for a change that he could become a good defender. He's talented enough, but not smart enough to do it on his own. Under a coach like Pops, Jackson, or Brown, I think Amare would thrive. For once in his career his ego would be below that of his coach's respectability.

But even in a perfect situation like that, you always have to worry about his knees.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if the deal was Manu/R-Jeff/Blair for Amare/J-Rich, wouldn't it put the Suns below the luxury tax for this year?

If so, that's yet another reason why this deal seems like it would be very difficult for the Suns to pass on.

The suns would have to take this deal whilethey can. Spurs would become beastly with a starting lineup of.

Parker
Richardson
Finley
Amare
Duncan
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."
