Re: 2021-22 RealGM All-Season Awards - Voting Thread (ends Sun night, 6/26)
POY:
1. Jokic
2. Curry
3. Giannis
4. Tatum
5. Butler
Pains me not to vote for Curry because I think he's been robbed in the past but if I would've voted for him last year to stay consistent I gotta vote for Jokic this year. Jokic was too good to ignore and while I buy into Doc's argument to an extent I still believe he is an ok defender and just needs to be built around better. If Dirk can be part of a great defense so can Jokic. Giannis is a clear 3 to me I think if there's one person I feel like I know in every series I'm going to get top of the line impact it's him. There's some question marks on defense with Jokic and health and consistency with Steph you pretty much know Giannis is gonna bring it every time. That being said he falls below them because I think his ceiling is lower than the other two and the other two brought their best enough to slide ahead. I'm with eminence on Tatum having a case for the second best regular season he's got a real case against anyone but Jokic. I'm higher on his playoffs than most though I think I might be lower on his finals than most. His run through the East was pretty great and I cant help but think if Butler buries that 3 he's on more lists here even though he would've then lost in the ECF. Speaking of Butler I had to reward his playoff run and can't really blame him for coasting if he still ends up with the 1 seed.
OPOY:
1. Jokic
2. Curry
3. Luka
Jokic just with an otherworldly offensive carry job. Passing like Bird shooting like Dirk and posting all time post up number it's really ridiculous. He did all this with no one to take the attention away too. I also think he's gotta a ton of stuff that translates to better team namely his quick touch passing, shooting, and offensive rebounding. 3rd place was hard choice but I felt like Luka should be on my ballot somewhere and this is the best place for him.
DPOY:
1. Gobert
2. Giannis
3. Tatum
Sometimes I question how many more times I have to see the Jazz defense fried in the playoffs but when I look at the numbers and watch them play I always come away with the same conclusion: Rudy is the best defender in the NBA. Again I'm really high on Giannis PO especially on the defensive end and I can forgive some RS coasting because I trust his impact at this point because imo it's well established. Gave Tatum 3rd to reward Celtics defense and his minutes+impact combo is probably the best on the team. Draymond had a down year defensively in the playoffs imo and missed a lot of RS games.
ROY:
1. Mobley
2. Barnes
3. Cade
Mobley over Barnes mainly because I just like him as a prospect more and he flashed that high end stuff a little more even in a lot of lineups where he was an awkward fit. Kid is going to be really good for a long time. Barnes was the bigger surprise though for sure and Masai found another gem.
6MOY:
1. Clarke
2. Herro
3. Bogdanovic
Feel free to take this one out I don't love my picks here.
MIP:
1. Garland
2. Bane
3. Wiggins
Garland really showed this year he's a guy you can hand the reigns of an offense too and his passing improvement is a huge deal for the Cavs future. I question how much Bane actually improved versus just being given the chance to prove who he is with more minutes and that's why he's 2 for me. Wiggins had a great PS and it's been talked about to death but the defense and rebounding he showed was unlike anything he's done over a sustained stretch at any point in his career.
COY:
1. Spo
2. Kerr
3. Udoka
I honestly could give this award to Spo basically every year but dragging this team within one shot of the finals is massively impressive. Kerr obviously deserves a ton of credit for this championship but I think the talent to result disparity is bigger for the Heat. Udoka was instrumental in the Cs turnaround and his defensive adjustments were masterful. I think he got outcoached by both the guys ahead of him on this list though.
EOY:
1. Myers
2. Stevens
3. Kleiman
Myers for having the diamond hands haha. Holding when everyone's screaming buy and ending up with the best result for the team's present and future was just really well done. I don't think most GM's would've had the poise and foresight to do this and it goes against all conventional wisdom. He's set them up for at least a couple more contending years.
1. Jokic

Only voting for POY.
POY
1. Nikola Jokic
2. Giannis Antetokounmpo
3. Stephen Curry
4. Luka Doncic
5. Joel Embiid
-Jokic was the best player in the league start to finish. Outrageously dominant regular season, winning 48 games without his 2nd and 3rd best players is just a ridiculous achievement. After that he went out guns blazing against the eventual champions. Don't think he could have done more. Should be a top 10 contender in the peaks project.
-Giannis played a fair bit of the year out of position with Lopez injured, which saw his defense suffer, and had his team suffer through periods of injury in general. I don't think there's much separating the top two as players but in a POY ranking, Jokic winning 48 with his cast is significantly more impressive than the Bucks winning 51 to me.
-Curry was the best player in the postseason for sure but I can't forget that two month long stretch in the RS when he honestly shot quite poorly. It is a season reminiscent of 2010 Kobe, who started off the season guns blazing and looked like the best player in the league but then had a two month decline before going off again in the Playoffs. Kobe finished behind LeBron that year and Curry is behind Jokic and Giannis here.
-Surprised Luka isn't getting more love. Yeah he had a rough start, but it wasn't as long as Curry's rough patch, and after the injury he led the Mavs to a 36-12 record and had a thoroughly dominant Playoffs. Should be looking to seize the number 1 spot next year IMO.
-Embiid was the third best in the RS for sure but the Playoff injury hurts him here.
HM: Tatum (very up and down in the Playoffs)

feel like luka has a legit case as the best playoff player of the last three seasons.
Could have beat a fully healthy clippers team if his co-star was healthy in 20. Took the clippers to 7 without a real co-star in 21. Went and beat a 62 win team without a co star in 22 and then played good if not great vs the warriors. GSW is like the only team he wasn't absolutely phenomenal against and he still did pretty good vs a great defense.
its my last message in this thread, but I just admit, that all the people, casual and analytical minds, more or less have consencus who has the weight of a rubberized duck. And its not JaivLLLL

Doc, thanks so much for all your work on this. Not just running the voting, but the amount of work you put into your posts in the discussion thread.
One thing -- in the following line, is "non-coaching" supposed to be "non-player" or something like that? Because this is his first non-coaching award, right?

EOY - Brad Stevens - first to win both COY & EOY for us, take sole possession of most non-coaching awards since we began
If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.

So even a couple of votes next year would move LeBron ahead of Russell as the all-time POY leader. Hopefully he has one more classic season left and we can have him achieve that.

I think it's going to be tough for him. Not even because I think he isn't good enough anymore to have a top 5 claim but because this Lakers roster is terrible. I don't trust AD to play over half the games in a season, with Westbrook it isn't even the question if he can live up to his max contract it's just if he can even still be a positive contributor at all and there is nobody else there able to make a noticeable impact on either side of the floor. I just don't see a 38 year old LeBron carrying this team for an entire season.

It's the awards share link in Doctor MJ's post.
