I dont know tbh. I find lukas on/off numbers really troubling. In a 4 year career a +0.4 as a superstar just screams to me something is wrong and it cant just be noise. Its not just that either , the year the mavs had the best off rating.... it was better when he sat. In fact Seth curry on the floor was more conducive to their off rtg. Im having a hard time washing away 4 years of data as noise. the playoffs are a bit better but its a smaller sample size and i very much doubt hes actually a 36-37% three point shooter and so i expect that goes towards his 33-34% carreer shooting. Free throw shooting is more indicative of shooting talent so that doesnt bode well for a huge leap there. Another poster said Russ Westbrook and i honestly been thinking that lately as this year luka scored on league average efficiency with 27/9/9 ... very Russ like. Though Russ had some huge on/off years.
Can people think of why this is the case? Brunson is a good backup but that shouldnt be enough, i also still think he shoots a bit too much and would prefer a few less shots and lower scoring if it gave an efficiency boost, maybe this is it. It could be his team mates needing to cover for him on defence... its just weird for this to be a 4 year sample. It didnt seem like his team really dropped off when he sat either. Vs the Warrior i think the non luka non steph minutes the mavs maybe won in a few games. EPM has him around 15th but its weird that seen many think hes near top 5. I do like luka to clarify... but i was a bit surprised how the data views him and have been trying to look for explainations.
For example.. what does he do better then an aging 37 year old Lebron James? Mid range shooting is really only it, i think i trust James three ball more and hes shot a better % the last few years on similar attempts. Luka is also surrounded by a 5 out system with consistently the highest usage in the league.
As for Zion... i truly believe his ceiling is higher then luka but i would pick luka over him just cos im doubting Zion will get there. Sad because i enjoy watching him so hoping for good health
How soon do you expect Luka to break into the Giannis/Jokic tier, if at all?

He has success next to a primary ball handler / near elite shot creator. Which was my point.
I think you’re probably in the minority if you’re taking Jokic over Giannis and Luka to get you a bucket in the last possession of a game 7.
Jokic led the Nuggets to the 6th best offense in the league this past year, better than the Curry's Warriors (ranked 17th) and Luka's Mavs (ranked 15th) and less than a point behind Giannis's Bucks (ranked 3rd). And he did this all with no primary ball-handler and a team of mostly cast-offs and journeymen. With Jokic, the Nuggets had a 119 ORTG, which would rank best in the league by 2 points. Without him, they did 105 - which would rank worst in the league. So they go from worst offense in the league without him to best in the league with him. In the history of on/off stats, I don't think I've ever seen a disparity this wide.
You may not know this forum well if you think I'm of the minority view on this. Most posters here think that Jokic is the best offensive player in the league as well as one of its best scorers.
I get it, Jokic is an analytics darling. Best analytical season ever or whatever breaking all kinds of stat records and what not.
Different strokes but if I'm picking a guy to go get me a bucket to win a game 7 Jokic is last on the list. Stylistically I prefer primary ball handlers and guys that can go beat their man off the dribble.
Historically it's extremely rare that a title team has a non-ball handling big as the best player. Last team was the Rockets? It's just a lot easier to neutralize a guy like Jokic vs Luka vs Giannis. Jokic' unassisted efficiency in iso and pull ups isn't otherworldly. You don't really have to worry about Jokic running the fast break and blowing by his guy getting an easy shot at the rim or pulling up from 30 ft.
When you were talking about a bucket to win a game 7 did you think of this?
Game winning shots?
more cluch shots?
and there is more...
