In 1996? Ewing, Hakeem, Mourning? Barkley? I don't think so. Kemp went h2h vs Hakeem in the playoffs, and outplayed him pretty decisively. Not sure there's a case there. Grant Hill finished lower in all-nba voting, but that's a closer one.

MJ, Malone, DRob, Shaq were indisputably better. The others are not clear-cut, except for those clearly worse than the others (Ewing, Mourning, Barkley, Hill)

Yeah, Barkley, Ewing and Hakeem were clearly better than Kemp in 1996. Kemp played on extremely stacked team that went to the finals, otherwise you would never say that he was better.

Hakeem was on a stacked team as well. Defending champions. Just got annihalated by the Sonics.

Knicks/Suns weren't stacked?

These are all super-talented teams.

Knicks certainly weren't on the level of Sonics. Suns were washed up at that point.

Sure. But, they were all very talented. Even in 93, when the Suns were at their peak, the Sonics were on their level, and it took a monstrous game 7 from Barkley to win it. And that was a Sonics team without Schrempf.

Kemp and Payton are two of the most under-rated players on these boards. Both are clearly better in their primes than Gobert, and it's not that close.

Gobert is a very good player. He's a similar level to Mutombo, without the ridiculous longevity or international impact. I think he can make the HoF if he has that same longevity, or if he wins a title like Ben Wallace. But, right now? I can't imagine putting him in.

I can say that Mutombo dominated Kemp h2h in 1994, which is actually true. Why don't you fancy Mutombo over Kemp?

Funny that you bring up Mutombo — the guy who shut down Kemp more completely than any match-up I have ever seen, routinely graded out as one of the league’s ten or so most valuable players (much like Gobert), and probably would have brought a title to Seattle if somehow that front office had the foresight to swap Kemp for him in the 1993 offseason. Kemp left the Sonics and they dropped like three expected wins. He was a good player with an entertaining style of play, but nothing close to a foundational piece.

Just because the Sonics beat the Rockets does not mean Shawn Kemp was better than Hakeem Olajuwon.

What's next, Klay Thompson was better than Lebron James because the Warriors beat the Cavs?

Is this in response to the mutombo vs kemp thingh?

Cause kemp and dikembe are much closer as peers that lebron and klay

A better example would have been using curry vs lebron

It's a response to the Kemp > Olajuwon thing. Isn't that obvious?!

I dare say Dikembe was better than Kemp either way, even at their respective peaks.
And in the post season Dikembe was clearly more valuable.
