Rings are great, but how many Gatorade commercials was Russell in?
What is the purpose of professional sports? Is it so that players can work hard at their craft and be evaluated as individual players by their peers, coaches, middle-class media members, and a drunken audience?
Is it so that franchises and their components (players, GMs, owners) have bragging rights over the other franchises through team accomplishment (winning titles)?
Is it to make money - for players, owners, media companies, corporate partners, and distribution partners?
I don't have the answers to anything, but if your answer skews towards money - and there's no wrong answer here - then Bill Russell probably isn't your GOAT.
For a culture that only values rings and MVP's why isn't Russell seen as the undisputed Goat.

Pay no mind to the battles you've won
It'll take a lot more than rage and muscle
Open your heart and hands, my son
Or you'll never make it over the river
