Top 10 PF seasons, since 1990

Post#1 » by SHAQ32 » Tue Dec 6, 2022 1:14 am

You can only choose a player once.

The reason I chose 1990 is that that was the beginning of one of the golden ages at the position, with Larry Johnson, Derrick Coleman, Shawn Kemp, etc., all coming into the league within a few seasons of each other.

Kevin Garnett - 2004
Dirk Nowitzki - 2009
Giannis Antetokounmpo - 2022
Anthony Davis - 2020
Charles Barkley - 1993
Karl Malone - 1992
Blake Griffin - 2014
Paul Gasol - 2009
Dennis Rodman - 1996
Chris Webber - 2001

HM:

Chris Bosh - 2013
LaMarcus Aldridge - 2014
Shawn Kemp - 1996
Rasheed Wallace 2001

I do consider Tim Duncan to be a C. If you forced my hand or convinced me he was a PF, his 2003 season would probably make the top of my list.

I also consider Draymond Green a C. He'd likely be in the 6-7 range.

Agree with the general order and selected years of the recent peaks project, swapping Davis and Dirk at 5 and 4 and then Malone and Barkley at 7 and 6.

So starting the list at #9, I would probably look to Rasheed (2002 if I have to pick a year). Great defender, had a decent scoring game as long as he was not asked to be anything more than a co-lead. My #10 would be 1992 Nance on a similar note. Could swap those two, but will give Rasheed the edge for being a little bit more modern in his willingness to space the floor.

What makes him a Center more than a PF in your opinion?

Well mentioned. I'd have him ahead of Griffin on that list.

I really hate positions but I will go by what I considered them during the season (I feel like KG, Dirk and Draymond are all optimized at Center in the current era, as are many others here)

1) 2013 LeBron James
2) 2004 Kevin Garnett
3) 2020 Anthony Davis
4) 2011 Dirk Nowitzki
5) 2017 Kevin Durant
6) 2022 Giannis Antentokoumpo
7) 1993 Charles Barkley
9) 2016 Draymond Green
9) 1992 Karl Malone
10) 2006 Elton Brand

Good call on Brand, totally slipped my mind. His 2006 season was tremendous. He'd be in range of C-Web, maybe even better. I also forgot about Amar'e, but to be honest, he played C, which means Marion at PF should at least be an HM as well.

2016 (and beyond) GSW's net-rating was record-setting with lineups where Draymond was at C.

You watch him more though. What do you consider him, PF or C?

2016 Draymond played most of his RS minutes (80% according to B-R.com) next to Bogut or Ezelie (or even Speights) who would be the center. They did use the death lineup in a lot of clutch situations but sparingly otherwise to keep teams from adjusting to it.

I'm surprised people are so low on Giannis. Depending on your classification of Duncan he should be in contention for #1.
