Dwight replacing Shaq from 93 to 06

Post#1 » by migya » Mon Dec 19, 2022 7:38 am

Dwight replacing Shaq from 93 to 06, his rookie season onwards. Does he ever get to the finals? Does he ever get top 5 mvp?

Think he is overrated due to serious lack of great Centers and bigs generally in his era. Don't think he'd ever be a top 5 player in any season in the range I mentioned. His quality is seen properly in this kind of context.

Would he be considered as better than players like Kemp, Webber, Parish or McHale in their primes and career?

He's definitely a better player than Kemp or Webber, any era change wouldn't make the difference here. Of course he's also much worse player than Shaq, so you should expect far less success.

1. Could get to the finals in the early 00s.
2. Could be top 5 in 1997, 1998, and 1999.
3. No comment on that combination of names, lol.

I think the timing is wrong for Dwight. We'd get 2012 Dwight with 2000 Lakers and 2013 Dwight with 2001 Lakers. I doubt they'd make the finals to be honest.

I agree he'd be top 5 in 1997-99 period.

There's no way he takes Lakers to the finals in the 00s. He was past his peak by 2012.
Jordan, Malone, Grant Hill and Mourning are clearly better in 97-99, except Jordan in 99 ofcourse. Olajuwon was better in 97 and 98, maybe 99, Robinson in 98, Duncan 98 and 99. Can name a few others who were performing well. Dwight rebounds very well and his defense, in his era, was also high level but just don't see him anywhere near the level of the best bigs in that era.

Absolutely nothing suggests that Grant Hill was better than peak Howard. Mourning vs Howard is a very close discussion as well.

Hakeem being better than peak Howard in 1999 is indefensible.
