2002 Top teams

50W DET Wallace/C.Robinson/M.Curry/Stackhouse/Atkins
49W BOS Battie/Walker/E.Williams/Pierce/K.Anderson
44W ORL Grant/Garrity/M.Miller/McGrady/Amstrong
44W CHA Campbell/PJ.Brown/Mashburn/Wesley/Davis

2003 TOP teams

50W DET Wallace/C.Robinson/M.Curry/Rip/Billups
48W PHI Coleman/VanHorn/K.Thomas/Snow/Iverson
48W IND Miller/O'Neal/Artest/Miller/Tinsley
47W CHA McGloire/PJ.Brown/Mashburn/Wesley/Davis

You need to understand that one of these teams must play in the Finals. So it was Kidd team. Good for him.

Very impressive run by Kidd

There were a lot of times he had to take over offensively so he didn't have a lot of help on those squads, the run in 2003 was especially great since they swept both the Celtics & Pistons (who had the best record in the East that year)

Yea he lifted those teams and got a average players to play well. His defense and playmaking are among the best alltime.

The idea that Kidd took the same team as the year before and was totally responsible for their turnaround is preposterous!

At Guard: Kerry Kittles came back.
At Forward: Van Horn and Martin were on the floor for a total of 35 to 40 more games. Martin was more developed. Richard Jefferson joined the team.
At Center: Well, still not much but better than the year before nonetheless. They added Todd MacCulloch and, triple-zero Jason Collins.

The Nets improved 26 games. I'd contend that, at the very least, the above factors accounted for half the improvement. Possibly more. Kidd added a lot. More than any single factor but not all of them. In any case, it was NOT the prior year's team that he joined... not by a long shot!

It made a great narrative at the time tho' for people who hadn't been closely following the team back then. (and there were not many of us!)
