Not directing this at any single person or post, but the 2nd half or so of this thread is a pretty good exhibit of why the quality of discussion on this board has gone down the toilet over the past several months. This isn’t the only thread, but it seems a large number of them at this point, especially among more polarizing players devolve into personal attacks, and just aggressive posting in general. I think a lot of us engage in it at times, but it’s been way over the top lately. People will do what they do I guess, it’s just a shame to see half of a thread wasted on this ridiculous amount of BS.

It’s the internet, so it’s not going to be the same as normal life discussion, but i imagine most people would rather not feel like they’re walking on egg shells whenever they make a post here.

Yeah I’m gonna respond to this because this is stupid lol. The warnings ive gotten are mostly for calling trolls or responding to someone that instigated. I went through every warning message I’ve gotten in the PC board, here are them listed out

Yeah, I do agree the warnings are valid, , but lets not try to twist it to be something like I’m some sort of aggressive poster that insults well meaning people for no reason during debates. A dude called my opinion an unreal level of uneducated and I called his idiotic. A dude said half the board didn’t know anything about basketball and then he said something factually untrue a minute later using ellipses which is condescending as hell, and I called him an idiot when he said something stupid in his next post. I didn’t treat gooner like a well meaning poster because he isn’t one, and judging by how many people agreed, I think it’s fair to say that this isn’t unjustified.

But as I said, I’m not disputing these warnings, sure, I was harsh on gooner and probably should have given him a chance to speak even though he’s a known troll and shouldn’t have come at him as hard. Kendogg was being a condescending prick and I called him an idiotic because he said something stupid right after, but fine, not allowed. Anyways, I know I can be a condescending prick sometimes too but if I say some stupid and factually untrue as a main point I it’s fine if I get called out for it on an anonymous basketball discussion forum, but whatever. (Actually I forgot penbeast deletes the post it was probably harsher lol)

The only legitimately heated debates I can even think of that I’ve gotten into recently was the giannis injury one, which was only heated between me and embiidfan (who I’m 90% sure has DMed my discord acct being fake as hell mind you) where I misspoke and should have said “one” instead of “you” and he went off after. On one hand I get why he was upset and I prolly shouldn’t have said his beliefs were npc behavior. That’s fine. Otoh, I’m fairly sure hes DMed me on discord praising me with his normal account lol so no respect if that suspicion is correct.

Even that one wasn’t particularly heated outside of the Embiid exchange, unless you mean when I talked about it with 70sfan after where he accused me of arguing for arguments sake or arguing in bad faith to the point where I had to literally had to post a play by play chatglog of the discussion to show him I was responding to what he said (don’t remember if it was a misunderstanding at the end anyways). I’d say I was probably a dick in that discussion remembering it, thought it was really stupid so I’ll take blame for that.

I don’t have a history of getting into heated debates. I have a history of responding to trolls and people being condescending pricks too harshly, and being blunt when someone’s trying to passive aggressively insult me to circumvent the rules. I’m cordial when I’m actually talking about basketball with well meaning posters, and most of the time what happens is Eventually I post an essay and everyone dips the discussion lmao.

Not as if these are mean spirited ones too causing the discussion to end half of them end in “thats a lot of points I’ll respond later!”, take a look at the KD in the 60s thread since that’s where 70sfan started having issues with me, unless it’s really because after a few years of no issues and being cordial, the gooner thing was the last straw which is why he has given a +1 to all of your warnings to me, and both heartbreakkidds and Embiidfans personal attacks on me. Maybe he can argue he was fed up with my behavior in those threads, But whatever, I don’t really care. Maybe I’m just doing the weird spaceman the-power thing but it’s happening a lot lol.

But again, I don’t care about prior warnings because I do think they are valid, but don’t try to twist this into a situation where I’m constantly very aggressive towards well meaning people unprovoked because I’m not. I’m aggressive towards trolls and if something is dumb I’ll call it a dumb take. To be clear, I don’t think any of the situations above, that Odinn21 deserved a warning or Kendogg deserved one, and for the Odin one specifically I can somewhat get that I was talking about him to someone else so it’s kind of a lack of respect thing so I get it… although the same thing happens here and it’s not even about the topic at hand

People talking about Chris Paul, someone mentioned something about the weight ofnarratives and I just talk about Cp0 rings joke because that is one of the dominant narratives around him, mostly as a joke.

I wouldn’t say this is directed at me, but one thing that I find so interesting is that people will really circumvent personal attacks by just saying stupid in 3 words or more, and apparently saying lacking basic knowledge =/= dumb here.

Saying lol after every sentence isn't showing a sense of humor. It's basically the equivalent of a valley girl saying "like" after every sentence. It looks bad, it's insanely passive-aggressive and it's a pain to read. Nothing to do with acronyms.

If ur going to admonish me for something, it’ll be for getting baited by trolls and being more blunt on a forum where every insulting adjective is replaced with a 2-3 polite word description that just comes across as condescending. Not for something I didn’t do.

I think you just don't get it unfortunately. Firstly, no one one the forum is allowed to insult anyone including mods. Secondly, on all forums across this site, it's clear policy of the mod teams that responding to an insult with an insult will get everyone involved a warning. We don't care who started what. Plain and simple there is a report button, use it and let us do our jobs.

Someone provoking you doesn't give you the right to get aggressive with them and insult them back. The fact that you go into this 'woe is me' diatribe listing out your warnings and make a point to say that one of your warnings was for attacking a known problem poster "which everyone else agreed with" shows to me that there is a disconnect in how you think the mod team operates. With HBK provoking you, all you had to do was report his post and let us do our jobs.

And yes, you simply are an aggressive poster regardless of the scenario. Funny thing is I wasn't even the mod who warned you on this, I simply posted what I posted because you have a racked up a number of warnings recently from multiple mods and believe it or not, I actually do like reading your takes; my point was to try and steer you to becoming a poster who isn't racking up multiple warnings.

Anyway, you are getting an additional warning for backseat modding and just as an FYI...the entire mod team is in agreement regarding all of your warnings and your behavior being offside.

Not sure who this is exactly directed at but I find this board is pretty chill and composed overall and the mod team is pretty hands off. We don't really like to hand out warnings but we have to step in if people are being aggressive with each other, derailing threads with insults, or posting inapproporate memes, gifs, tweets etc.

As long as you don't insult others or bait others, 99.99% of the times you will never get a warning; so don't have to do any walking on egg shells around here, if at all IMO.
