Gobert or Kessler?

Post#1 » by jazzfan1971 » Sun Mar 26, 2023 5:16 am

Both guys hit the waiver wire. You have to take one and only one.

Gobert is better right now, but paid a ton more and on the downhill side of his career.
Kessler is cheap and young locked into a rookie deal but there is no guarantee he will ever be as good as Gobert is now.

Who you take?
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Gobert is better, has proven it for years and is an absolute iron man

Kessler probably has a 5% chance of being as good and productive as Gobert in the next 3 seasons.

Funny thing is, Gobert made Kessler.

Kessler if remained on Wolves roster (who drafted him as late 1st flyer) is buried on bench as 4th center. NBA world doesn’t even know his name.

Gobert trade gave him minutes and opportunity. Great for that young man for taking what NBA gods gave him and producing.

I would take 20-1 odds on this bet!

Pretty interesting how different forums vote. If you are a trade forum voter you pay more attention to salaries I guess.

How is this relevant to your question? You said they are both Waiver Wire Pickups.

Contracts stay the same for guys claimed off waivers to the best of my knowledge.

I think you’re thinking of guys who clear waivers.

Given their salaries, I'm taking Kessler. Gobert at a max is tying up too much cap -- great player, I just wouldn't want to have to deal with the salary he eats vs. Kessler especially as he ages.

Kessler has better hands, more offensive versatility and more impressive timing on both offensive and defensive plays than Gobert. Gobert is a more imposing physical presence with his size and physicality.
