Peak Kyrie Irving vs Current SGA

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sun Jun 25, 2023 5:36 pm

Who is the better player? Peak Kyrie Irving (16'? 19'? 21'?) or 23' Shai Gilgeous Alexander?

If off-court issues affect your answer, please state if it would change putting off-court issues aside.

By advanced stats, it feels like SGA tops peak Kyrie (which was still this year BTW). But I haven't seen him ball out in the playoffs and he hasn't even made the playoffs yet as a 1st option. He also didn't do well in the play-in game. I might give it to Kyrie by a bit, but SGA had a better season and I think will be the better player. He's maintained his 27/5/6 per 36 or so on +4 TS% and neutral defense across a bunch of teams and organizations the last 5 or 6 years. He's been crazy this whole time and that hurts, but his level of consistency, regardless of who's next to him, is pretty insane. I'd say you have to say any Kyrie after 2016 is better than, say, any version of prime Carmelo. He's crazy and has been injured at inopportune times, but in terms of all-around ability and impact, Kyrie is pretty underrated. SGA is great though.

SGA now is at a level Kyrie never hit.

Kyrie , putting aside all the off the court stuff aside. Answer very well could change though, this too coming from one who is much more keen on Shai comparatively from a fan standpoint.
