Look at all that (non-existent) hand checking stopping Robinson from scoring.

Spurs could very well have won the series and title if Robinson had even played to his usual playoff level. But he did even worse, putting up 21 points on 29% shooting with 7 turnovers and 19 points on 35% shooting with 6 turnovers in two close losses. Robinson absolutely blew the series with how bad he was offensively. Sure, he is much better than Jokic defensively but realistically, I don't see Hakeem scoring much better than he already did. And if anything, Jokic being heavier and more ground bound might be more advantageous for the matchup since he is less likely to fall for Hakeem's fakes than Robinson who was jumping all over the place.

One little video doesn't prove anything. Watch the games from those decades and you'll see.

I'm not going to post numerous videos of games showing the hand checking and physicality but this video below does have very good points that explains it:

Four times out of 82 RS games to be precise. Would you like to talk about the rest of matchups?

Why such argument doesn't work for the 1960s, when Jokic on average would face a better bigman matchup? In a 9 teams league in 1965, he'd have to face Russell, Wilt, Thurmond, Bellamy, Reed and Beaty - that's 6 out of 9 starting centers.

Jokic's 'physicality' would be a nice change of pace.

Jokic creates way more physical problems than Ewing.

How did overpowering the smaller Draymond Green go for Jokic.

Considering that Jokic dominated Green in h2h matchup, I guess pretty well.

Obviously he's a great offensive player, but this idea D.Rob can't take him defensively when Draymond can is a bit silly.

I said Jokic would cause a lot of problems for Robinson, not that Robinson would get destroyed.

I don't care if he has a lower centre of gravity, Draymond is not a better match up in the post than D.Rob. D.Rob was strong af, the dude was chiselled out of stone.

Robinson wasn't that strong. He was extremely athletic, but his lower body strength was always a huge weakness of his. That why Shaq struggled more against smaller, but more sturdy Duncan than against Robinson who got pushed around relatively easily.

There are indeed bench players today who would be all-stars in the 90s, but there are G-league role players who would be all-stars in the 60s.

If you think that bench players would be all-stars in the 1990s, then thinking Jokic would fare worse back then is stupid.

It never fails when you ask people to open up a YouTube full game video from any series that they want from the ‘80s or ‘90s and tell them the points in which hand-checking disrupt it off fence of sets, disrupted offensive actions, etc., and they won’t be able to because it just didn’t work that way.

Case in point right here.

If we can kick Dennis Rodman off the team, it would have a chance. This team isn't winning anything with Rodman being a disruption.

Replace Rodman with Jokic, then this 1995 Spurs team would have a potential to become an all-time great team. (Although, this comes at a cost: the Spurs would not be in contention to get Tim Duncan in 1997.)

Jokic AND Robinson? Are you sure you won't need Jordan too? :D

On the other hand, Hakeem wouldn't have to fake out the shorter, ground bound jokic.

From what I remember, Hakeem had relatively more trouble with height and strength, so jokic should be easier for him. With shorter guys he could just do the jump hook all game.

Vertical contests and length certainly can be a huge difference between Robinson and Jokic, but Jokic wasn't really much shorter than Robinson and he was sturdier and stronger. He also has comparably quick hands.

I don't think Hakeem would struggle against Jokic at all, but Robinson did a terrible job on him throughout the series, allowing for deep catches and jumping on every fake like a rookie. Jokic wouldn't do much to slow down Hakeem, but at least he'd be a big body with inteligent positioning.

Wasn't Robinson 7'1"? He played Hakeem pretty tough during the regular season so it was odd to see him play so poorly in the playoffs

He's listed at 7'1, but in reality he's probably around 7'0 without the shoes. That makes him slightly taller than Jokic, but the difference isn't drastic.
