Rondo was a solid defensive point guard, but his assist numbers were inflated in Boston by playing with guys who produce offense effectively. And of course he was a notoriously poor shooter.

Could be my Piston bias but I don’t think it’s close.

Billups. It's not close.

Billups, no question. Much better overall offensive player and still a very good defender as well.

I think Billups was better at everything, even playmaking.

Billups was a top 10 player in the league for much of his prime. Rondo was all star level and his prime was short.

I admit I opened it thinking it would say "at their peak," "in the playoffs," and/or "defensively" since the career answer is way too obvious.

No he wasn't, he had an argument for top20 maybe, but FAR from top10.

Well that's a matter of opinion. You don't have to agree with me, but I'm perfectly free to voice my opinion which is what people do on message boards. What you're saying to dispute my opinion isn't very substantive though. It's just you putting FAR in caps as though that settles it. I do get that opinions on Chauncey tend to vary quite a bit and I think that's because I don't think people tend to fully appreciate the completeness of his game(varied off+def), intangibles which led to team success and the fact that he was ahead of the curve in terms of eliminating bad 2's in favor of more 3's. If your whole way of evaluating a player is just rs box score related stuff then he comes out as more like top 15-20 most years(despite being top 12 in mvp voting 4 times and making 3x all nba teams). I wouldn't say he was top 10 every year but in the top 8-15 range most years of his prime. I'm not forcing anyone to agree with me here though and I don't recall how he grades out on rapm samples.

Billups was definitely top 10 in 2006.
