My bad.

It's all good, I think adding a whole team would wild because then the whole Sixers starters except Iverson become bench depth.

I think Wilt would be able to handle Shaq.
Larry Brown I believe was the coach when Wilt played against Magic that one summer.

Why do you think he'd fare better one on one against Wilt?

Think Shaq's lower-body mass and comparable strength, length and fluidity would give 67 Wilt some issues. Lakers Wilt was visibly a heavier player and I think would do better, but we're talking about a younger Wilt, optimised for a much quicker game (2001 LA had a pace almost THIRTY POSSESSIONS more than the 67 Sixers played at). Also arguable whether 67 Wilt was in general as good a defensive player as DPOY Deke that year, though that's not particularly my argument.

Happy to listen to counterarguments, though.

Oh, so you mean better than Wilt, not better than he did against Mutombo? Then I think that's a fair statement.

I'd add that Wilt was already a huge human being in 1967. He weighed around 295 lbs during that era.

No, did mean Shaq would do better against Wilt than Mutombo (at least in a vacuum. Shaq would DEFINITELY have to work more on the defensive end against Wilt).

Not, to be clear, by any massive margin.

Then I don't understand that logic to be honest.

Glad we've reached our scheduled impasse, then. ;)

penbeast0 wrote:You could give the Sixers peak LeBron instead of George Lynch and it would still be questionable because Iverson, while a strong floor raiser, isn't that good at anything other then volume scoring. Philly, a team built around his talents, didn't drop off much when they dealt him for Andre Miller. Denver improved when they dealt him for Chauncy Billups.

Remember that Iverson that regular season had a TS Add of only 1.6 despite scoring over 30 ppg (and was strongly negative in 00 and 02 so this wasn't a fluke). That's what happened when you shoot a ton but with a TS% of only .518 And the playoffs were worse. His efficiency plunged to .480. Yes, he'd be helped by shooting less and having LeBron to draw attention but he was never that efficient a scorer (one TS Add season of 100+ in his career) and he was a poor defender to boot though fortunately for Philly, Derek Fischer isn't going to make him pay for it much.

Iverson was a very good playmaker/passer. Actually I'd say he's a much better passer/playmaker than scorer

...when he chose to be. I agree that he has the talent; his handles are very tight and if they'd tried to make him a more traditional score first point when he came into the NBA, I'd have him rated much higher. The trouble is that generally he preferred driving into a crowd and throwing it up looking for a foul to working in a team offensive frame. This avoids turnovers but doesn't play to any strengths that our teammates might have. Even in Denver, it frequently seemed like the offense was just to overload one side or another to have Iverson and Carmelo isolate.

I would say he chose to be in his best years, including 2001. If nothing else, creation metrics like passer-rating, playval, and box-oc seem to rate him pretty well iirc. Do not have the numbers on me but I think ben said AI had nuetral or slight postive score-val with a strong playval at his best.

If Mt. Mutombo is still on the team - the Sixers will take it.

Mutombo would be great in that 1mpg that he would be getting behind Wilt.
