Yes it was true before but with how offenses are now guards have more impact than they used to on D

Being an elite screen navigator can make up for revounding deficiencies because you never have to switch to and box out a big. But def a big deal when you have guards that can execute that kind of scheme. The Lakers routinely got punished to start the season by their switching scheme leaving Reaves and DLo open to giving up rebounds
