GOAT 1v1 Player Round 2 (Guards)

Post#1 » by EasternHeretic » Wed Jan 24, 2024 11:57 pm

Top 5 from the SG polls moved on. Where there's a tie the player with more comments gets picked. For PGs Magic and Oscar has been added as names outside of the original poll who was voted in by comments.

Leaning Harden, again because I think 3 point shooting will play an extremely significant role. Curry and Doncic are of course 3 point threats too but don't have the at the basket scoring efficiency that Harden does to team with it. And Harden's tendency to not focus defensively will hurt him a lot less with no team scheme defensively. He can play one on one defense when he chooses.

In this hypothetical are the players going to be matched up with each other or some platonic concept of an NBA 'guard'? If the latter it seems like Luka's combination of size and variety of scoring skill would be a hard cover among the listed.

It depends if it's all 1s, 1s and 2s, or 2s and 3s. If it's all 1s then I think MJ is a clear favorite.

If it's 1s and 2s, I previously said Harden - his stepback 3 will be pretty much unguardable, but he has enough bulk to match with the bigger guards.
