But for MJ's late-season return it's doubtful they make the postseason at all, even with how bad the 8 seed was in '86.Woolridge and Jordan were taking turns being the man on each other possession. Woolridge and Jordan were not playing off of each like a Jazz band using each other to make good music together. They were soloists.
Woolridge was a good player.
Woolridge left Jordan in free agency in the summer of 1986. I think I read that Woolridge wanted a team of his own and did not want to be Jordan’s sidekick.
Later aging Woolridge joined the Lakers and fit in and was a decent supporting player for Magic and wwas Worthy’s back up. Woolridge worked fairly hard on defense for that Laker team.
I seriously doubt that had anything to do with Woolridge shooting 9 for 27 in that game.
The only time he advanced far in the postseason came as a role player. Any time his role was greater than that, he did nothing.
Woolridge got 9 rebounds including 4 offensive rebounds in the Jordan 60 point playoff loss game vs the 1986 Celtics. Bird guarded Oakley. MCHale with his crazy long arms guarded Woolridge. Many small forwards had bad days when guarded by McHale. Small forwards are not used to being guarded by somebody like McHale.
