Collin Sexton: Does he still have a shot at becoming a star?

Sexton is generally not well regarded as he's a 6'1" SG who is currently a bad defender. But after two injury plagued seasons, Sexton had an offensive explosion last season, jumping to a 3.8 OBPM due to his 105 TS, 29.5% AST%, 2.28 A:TO ratio, and 27.5% USG. Sexton regained his athleticism (shooting 74% at the rim while having a FTr of .356) and maintained his now extremely high level shooting. Sexton shot 86% from the line, 39% from three on fairly high volume, 45% from floater range on high volume, and around 42% from midrange on low volume. He also improved significantly as a passer and decision maker this year.

But despite his great offensive production (top 25 in the entire league in OBPM), Sexton still has many doubters and for good reason. He just turned 25 in January, but he's 6 years into his career and he's a clear negative on defense. He should also play PG due to his height, but his passing and PG skills are still just not good enough to play PG.

Are there examples of former gunner guards who reformed themselves to be PGs this late in their career while maintaining their scoring firepower? Do you think Sexton with even better passing and decision making could reach maybe star level? With better passing and defense, could he reach Jalen Brunson level?

He's been inconsistent, but if he can put together a lot of what he's done here and there, he has a shot. We've seen inefficient volume scoring from him and development in both his finishing at the rim and his short game. He's also been pretty good from three for a while now, and has any kind of long two. Doesn't look like a stunner as a creator for others and he's quite small, so you already know there's an upper bound to what makes sense in terms of volume scoring responsibility and what happens in the playoffs to most little dudes who are asked to score too much.

Looks to me like he's murdering it quite effectively in his current role and should generally stick to it. He looks like a dude who should be contending for 6MOY type stuff instead of someone the Jazz should try to scale up.
