Vince may have been T-Mac's cousin, but Kobe was his BROTHER

>Both low-FG% midrange gunners with a "bag"
>Both needed superior bigs to get anywhere
>Both poor leaders
>Both have back-to-back scoring titles
>Both fanbases blame injuries
>Both blew a 3-1 lead in the 1st round in their best season

Prime stats comparison.
Kobe = 28/6/5 on 46%FG and 34%3P
T-Mac = 27/7/5 on 44%FG and 35%3P

Kobe was T-Mac's figurative kid brother, in that T-Mac was clearly the better player at his peak.

McGrady's 03 season was definitely one for the ages. A shame it was wasted on such a trash squad.

Blame Grant Hill not being healthy.

People forget those teams were bad because they were paying Grant Hill max money and he was in street clothes.

That team would have been a contender had Hill stayed healthy. Tmac honestly should have stayed in Toronto with VC. They had potential to be MJ/Pippen 2.0.

McGrady and Hill would have been incredible. And yes, T Mac should have stayed. He didnt realize how much Vince preferred being number two instead of the focal scorer, sadly.

I don't know about OP's second point. Kobe certainly played well with great and good bigs but Tmac really only played with one star quality big and that was Yao. And, without having the stats, it seemed every year like Tmac looked good not great until Yao got injured then Tmac would step into a nearby phone booth and play like Superman for awhile. I'm not sure he had the mental makeup to max his skills with another superstar but might be more of an Iverson type player who needed to be surrounded by defensive specialists who could play off his creation skills to max his team impact.

Imagine thinking 75 year old box score metrics capture a player's impact. Perhaps......Kobe's value goes beyond a statline and that's why his career is much different from Vince and Tmac's.
