Rudy McHale or Luka Bowen

Who would be the better player, using the better attributes in each pair?

I went with Rudy McHale. I don't think Luka Bowen is all that much better than Luka. It isn't like Luka isn't already exhausted with his offensive load so he can't realistically also exert defensive energy.

Gobert/McHale on the other hand is arguably the best Big ever. Imagine Gobert with McHale's offensive game at his size.

I guess the assumption is Luka gives you Bruce Bowen-level impact defensively.

And I don't think that Rudy McHale is superior as a player vs Tim Duncan or Hakeem Olajuwon, unless you'd rather build your offense around Kevin McHale than prime Hakeem (and that assuming Gobert >= defensively vs Hakeem or TD). But I guess you assume Gobert-level athlete and size with McHale skillset, but it's too deep for me.

What would be the point of making a hypothetical Luka Bowen player and then saying the Bowen portion doesn't exist :lol:

Just assume that his hypothetical player has the stamina required to exert maximum impact on both ends of the floor at once.

I'm probably taking Rudy McHale though. His passing and playmaking leaves an awful lot to be desired but his scoring is so ridiculously efficient that it'll probably give him unprecedented levels of gravity that can boost his offensive impact with minimal decision making involvement. Kevin McHale peaked at 26.1PPG on 65.5TS%, in the 1987 regular season and 25.4PPG on 67TS% in the following 17 game 1988 post season.

Rudy Gobert peaked at 15.6PPG on 73.2TS% in the 2022 regular season and 14.7PPG on 73.6TS% in the preceding 2021 post season.

Combine McHale's post game, shot creation and free throw shooting percentage with Goberts pick and roll game, offensive rebounding and off-ball finishing and you have the best scorer in NBA history from a volume, efficiency and resiliency standpoint (with no 3 point shooting required).

That GOAT scoring, + GOAT level rebounding, + ATG rim protection = GOAT, surely.

Imagine a player averaging 30/15/3 on 68TS whilst also being the best defender in the league. Hell you could remove Goberts scoring ability entirely and you'd still have 26/15/3 on 66TS. Crazy stuff.

Mchale was already a solid defender. Maybe not on the level of Gobert, but there is some overlap. As mentioned, Hakeem is comparable already, with less efficiency but better defence. Luka Bowen would be a better Lebron. I'll take Luka Bowen in a vacuum.
