I am not surprised at all. Everybody who knows the game surely understands that Hakeem was by far the best defensive player in the league from the mid 80s to mid 90s. There's a reason the DPOY award has been named after him and nobody every questioned whether it should be renamed. He was robbed of about 7 DPOY awards by Eaton, Alvin, MJ and Rodman.

As regards MJ's inflated stocks, that is nothing compared to the cooking made by the scorekeepers in the 60s and early 70s. Remember Frazier's 17 assists in the 1970 finals? Or more like 7 assists in reality?

Very good read. Didn’t expect this

Well let’s put some context to this, Tom Haberstroh is the guy who basically made the stupid Heat Index thing for espn which they had never done for any other player or team. I don’t disagree with the premise of the idea of inflated stats, I do question why there is a Lebron reporter making this the very moment the finals ended. It is pretty petty to tell you the truth.

That Frazier game was indeed ridiculous, but was the home book cooking that consistent? ABA stats especially should be taken with a large helping of skepticism as various league officials admit that they made up swatches of them as the record keeping of a number of franchises was amateur in the unprofessional sense of the word.
