With 2024 rules/refs/coaches, who wins a best of 7?

2009 + 2020 Lakers
Derek Fisher / Rajon Rondo
Kobe Bryant / Kentavious Caldwell-Pope / Alex Caruso
LeBron James / Danny Green
Anthony Davis / Lamar Odom / Trevor Ariza
Pau Gasol / Dwight Howard

2008 + 2024 Celtics
Jrue Holiday / Rajon Rondo
Jaylen Brown / Ray Allen / Derrick White
Paul Pierce / James Posey / Sam Hauser
Jayson Tatum / Al Horford
Kevin Garnett / Kristaps Porzingis

This is basically 2008 finals but lakers add lebron and davis while celtics add hollyday and tatum (brown is not better than ray allen imo)

I go lakers there as even at the time a healthy lakers was probably on par already with boston

I think the 2008 Celtics are better than the 2009 Lakers and 2024 Celtics are better than the 2020 Lakers, but for some reason adding LeBron and AD for the 2009 Lakers makes them feel more daunting, heh.

Then again, the Celtics in 2008 already had the personnel to take good advantage of 2024 rules, imo. Ray, Pierce, Tatum, White, Brown, Holiday, Porzingis, House, and Posey is just deadly from 3. The Lakers probably can’t match that output from 3, tbh. Garnett could also probably get a couple 3s up since his favorite shot was right inside the 3 already. TBH, I think I take House over Rondo (2008 version) if we are playing 2024 rules. That team doesn’t need a playmaker, there’s enough there between Holiday, White, Tatum, and Pierce as far as creation.

EDIT: I take a slightly different perspective than the poster above. I look at it more as you are adding Pierce, Ray Allen, Garnett, House, and Posey to one of the greatest 3PT shooting teams ever (2024 Celtics). You are taking one of the best 3PT shooting teams ever and infusing them with even better shooters. Eddie House is a better Pritchard, and Posey is a better version of Hauser. Pierce, Allen, KG goes without saying.

Fisher isn't taking off his warmups yet alone starting for LA . They are NOT running the triangle.

The math is against LA here. They won't be able to keep up from 3 but the rim pressure is just insane. They are a significantly better interior team.

2020 was the only season in his career that LBJ was full time PG,so it would change the starting lineup a bit like Ariza instead of Fisher...

Correct on 2020 LeBron playing PG for LAL:

2009 + 2020 Lakers
LeBron James / Rajon Rondo
Kobe Bryant / Kentavious Caldwell-Pope / Alex Caruso
Trevor Ariza (or Odom) / Danny Green
Anthony Davis / Lamar Odom (or Ariza)
Pau Gasol / Dwight Howard

While the Celtics are the better 3PT shooting team, the Lakers have the length and switchability to easily stay with them while absolutely crushing them inside. For that reason, I take the Lakers.

The Lakers team would need some shooting in the starting lineup, imo. Maybe swap KCP and/or Danny Green into the starting lineup for Kobe/Ariza and then let Kobe/Ariza feast on the second unit.

Lmaooo seriously though I do think the Lakers starting lineup would need more shooting, but not sure where you’d get it from. Brons the only guy in that lineup shooting at least league average from 3. I’d choose them in this matchup but shooting could be a problem.

In today's game it's true their offense would be clunky with very little spacing. You'd PnR with the bigs to death, Pau's a great passer as a big too with AD as lob threat, Kobe on weakside to shoot or attack off the catch quick 1v1 into a drive, post move, etc., and you'd have a shooter there too. Their defense would be deadly anyway to make their primary attack the transition game. Off the bench you'd have LeBron+AD+floor spacers in some lineups.
