How many Kawhi seasons over peak Pippen?

Post#1 » by ardee » Thu Jul 18, 2024 12:53 am

I would imagine 2016, 2017 and 2019 for sure. Then probably 2020 (he was healthy all year) and maaaaybe 2021 (the Playoff injury is the deciding factor, could've won it all if he was healthy, but then would a healthy Pippen in his place help the Clippers win the title anyway? I don't think so).

So call it 4.5 for me.

I don't think there's much between 92/93 Pip compared to 94. His volume just scaled up with no Jordan.

But I would take those Kawhi seasons mentioned in the OP over Pippen's.

I think just 16, 17 & 19. Even 19 if it wasn't for the playoff run I'd have questions due to the missed games. 20&21 just have too much of a combination of missed games, def drop off and even though he has some great playoff series, he also gets injured and his teams do things like give up 3-1 leads. So can't in good faith take 20/21 over 94/95 Scottie. The lack of leadership provided by Kawhi really shone through in those early Clippers years.

2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020

I think 2015 is the next season for Kawhi rated highly [though below the best of Pippen].

2019 easily. Pippen was great but not a #1 option capable of leading a team to a title. He was certainly better than 2014 FMVP Kawhi though.
