I wouldn't call them particularly strong but let me remind you that the Squires went from 55 wins with George Carter and Doug Moe playing forward and Charlie Scott as their primary scorer to 47 with the Carter gone and Moe to the bench but Scott still the primary scorer with rookie Dr. J, to 42 with George Irvine and rookie George Gervin playing alongside Erving at forward. Jim Eakins was the center for all 3 teams, Fatty Taylor the defensive specialist at guard though his playing time increased each year so there was some continuity.

They were young enough to still be in their primes, except for Moe, and the ABA was getting better each year but Virginia wasn't the train wreck it became as they sold off Erving, Gervin, and anyone else in a desperate attempt to keep the franchise from folding in subsequent years.

Votes are tallied. I recorded 13 voters: Djoker, AEnigma, Dutchball97, Dr. Positivity, Penbeast, IlikeShaiGuys, LA Bird, One_and_Done, Ardee, ShaqAttac, OhayoKD, Narigo, and trelos. Penbeast, LA Bird, One_and_Done, Narigo, and ShaqAttac abstained from voting for Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, and OhayoKD abstained from voting for Offensive Player of the Year. Please let me know if I seem to have missed or otherwise improperly recorded a vote.

1. Kareem Abdul Jabbar- far away best player in regular season. Although got neutralized by Thurmond in ps and lost.

2.. Walt Frazier

3. Wilt Chamberlain- Not as good as in 72 but verry close Leads Lakers to finals. The finals were closer than people make it out to believe despite losing in 5 games

4. Tiny Archibald- leads his team to best offense in league

5. John Havichek- Celtics probably could have beaten the Knicks and maybe the championship if he didn't get hurt in g4 against the knicks

Will count it this time but in the future do not post ballots after voting has concluded.
