Prime Dwight Howard in current NBA

Post#1 » by AStark1991 » Thu Jun 12, 2025 2:45 pm

How well do you think Dwight Howard in his peak form would translate to the modern style of play and where do you think he would rank in the league as an all-around player? I know of some people who firmly believe that he would still be a bona fide star because of his other worldly combo of strength and athleticism, and I've also seen others who think he'd just be a supercharged version of Rudy Gobert because of his lack of range and polish on the offensive end of the floor. What's your opinion on the matter?

Probably still a 23/14 guy perennially contending of the DPOY while he was healthy. Still would blow chunks at the line and have no reliable touch beyond three feet, weak on his hooks but still deadly in transition, off-ball and out of the PnR. You put him with a PnR spam lead guy like Luka or Lebron or someone like that, and he's going to be a deadly monster as a #2.

He obviously rushed himself back too fast after the injury to play with LA, but if he hadn't done that, we might have seen a more extended prime from him, so there's that to consider.

Definitely a guy who, if he kept his head in check, could be very useful despite his range. He was pretty nasty in his own right in his actual career, but when he started wanting to iso more, it started to rob him of some efficacy because he wasn't a very good passer and wasn't very versatile.

He'd be excellent overall, though. I put top-10. Kinda waffling on maybe top-5 even still. Dwight was sick, man.

From 07-08 through 10-11, other than LeBron he was the best player in the league (KG, CP3, Wade, Dirk also were in the conversation here and there). Would still be in the conversation for best today. Nobody is unquestionably better.
Now that's the difference between first and last place.
