Comprehensive Tracking Thread (LeBron)

Post#1 » by Lebronnygoat » Fri Nov 21, 2025 9:47 pm

My first part of tracking on this thread will be the 2013 Finals, Game 1 for LeBron James
https://youtu.be/IJL1OJoDyUA?si=HO7X2y7V9q1yWn9_
Spoiler:
LeBron breaks off into transition really well and causes defenders to jump laying it down low for an easy finish
At 0:12 you see LeBron extending an advantage from the screen and pop play by Chalmers and Bosh, screening Kawhi and Parker gives Bosh a more time to make a move and draws a foul on Kawhi
LeBron does a good job sliding in front of Duncan to eliminate the pass for a rim shot
Good contest by LeBron on Kawhi
At 0:37 you’ll see LeBron help give Wade an advantage off his screen which allows for kick out action to a Bosh open mid range
LeBron roams extremely far off Kawhi and disrupts Splitter slipping and then ruins Duncan’s pop out for a mid range and timely gets back to Kawhi, results in Duncan taking a poor mid range, then he takes it into the break, drives and kicks to Bosh for an open 3.
LeBron helps out Wade on Duncan, and you can see LeBron playing Duncan’s right side, which forces the pass to be made more narrow on the numbers of Duncan and Wade makes a great steal on the ball
LeBron picks up on Splitter, eliminating a rim shot
LeBron creates an open jump shot for Bosh
Elite communication, LeBron reading the inner actions takes away Green’s open pop out for 3, and tells Wade to take bottom left
LeBron’s screen makes Parker take a wide step, gives Mario a good lane and doesn’t give Mario a bad take but just great defense by Kawhi.
LeBron picks up Parker on the break and plays great contest defense but just an elite finish
(Idk why I included this play), maybe he gaps on Duncan’s right side to force him left
Eliminates a Duncan rim shot by sliding down
This is LeBron creating but Mario has to attack the close out, it’s a bad decision by Mario to take the shot
Switches and forces an errant pass, and great rebound, probably gets back to Green if LeBron isn’t 6’9 and athletic playing on the perimeter
Great job tagging the cutter, getting back to his man and then picking up a man and funneling him into rim protection.
Creates a look for Miller and makes it
Tags splitter and blows up the play
LeBron’s defensive radius to blow up plays makes Parker not pass the interior read, eliminating the rim shot
LeBron sets an off ball screen for Ray to get a good look, great pick up by Kawhi but the contest doesn’t mean much
Excellent help defense by LeBron, Parker forced into off centered shot
Great drive and feed to Anderson, rim shot/free throws created
Good job sliding down to take away Splitter, good closeout on Kawhi and stays with Kawhi until the end of the play where he screws up, still, forcing a much worse shot
Great all around defense
Pushing the pace, catching spurs ball watching and hits Miller for an open shot
Great job sliding over and playing help defense
Catches spurs ball watching again and hits Chalmers for an open 3
Off ball screen gets defender tripped up and leads to a good shot for Wade
Good job sliding over covering Duncan and then eliminating Splitter’s rim shot
LeBron’s screen sinks in Manu and helps give Mario better penetration to kick out to Battier
Good pickup on Parker and sends the ball out of bounds
Post up and kick out to an open shot
Drive and kick to an open shot
Quick connect to Haslem for an open shot
Drive and kick to an open shot
Good job sliding down to take away Duncan’s rim shot
Good job sliding down to take away Splitter’s rim shot and closing out on Kawhi
Attracts 3 defenders and hits Ray open for a shot
Slides over to take away Splitter and gets back to Kawhi, doesn’t put a hand in the face but makes the jump shot a bit harder
Great help defense by lebron and strong rebound. Goes on the break, catches spurs ball watching and hits an open Miller
Drives and hits Bosh for an open 3
LeBron playing two down low and grabs another tough rebound
Good screen to get Ray cleanly separated which gives a lane for a good shot
Good job taking away Duncan’s rim shot but gets bullied on the rebound after, a good play but then an error
Great rim defense by LeBron and a great rebound
Creates a rim shot for Bosh, kind of congested but gets it back and scores
Good contest
Good help defense to take away Duncan
LeBron pushes the pace and creates a ray 3 which makes Green prematurely contest and fouls
Good help defense by lebron, arguably a no call but forces him to go to the line instead of an easy layup, Duncan even goes 1 for 2 at the line
Drive and kicks to Bosh for 3
The famous Parker play, LeBron plays great defense on the shot
LeBron actually creates a decent look for Wade, he has to finish that

15 creations for rim shots or shooters
7 screens for advantages
1 quick connect
24 blow ups on defense
4 contests on defense (not apart of the blow ups section)
23 good offensive possessions (outside his scoring)
28 good defensive possessions (more if you count rebounds and multiple good d plays on one possession which happened a few times)
16 defensive rebounds
2 offensive rebounds

One of the best all around games, if not the best that I’ve ever watched

I encourage all of us to do the same, it would be pretty nice for us to track games and see why advanced on off stats rank things the way it does, like RAPM. Which goes off the little things and just how much you do or how your nature on the court matters.
