Worst player IQ in the league? odom?

Post#1 » by salsaking » Mon Jan 28, 2008 11:52 pm

Is Lamar Odom the stupidest player in the league right now? This guy's basketball is clearly in the gutter, can anyone be worse?

im not sure if ur referring to basketball iq, or academic iq...but if ur referring to basketball iq ur iq should be questioned....he understands the game very well...however, he seems to be lazy in learning his coaches offense

I dunno, maybe im  but I got his point. Odom overall seems to be a fairly smart basketball player. He plays though is bad stretches of basketball but then every player does.

He's definitely up there, no doubt. Makes the same cuts every time, gets taken out of his game by one or two bad calls, lacks focus during clutch stretches of games, etc.

Tinsley. Do you guys remember that game against the Suns where he took all but one of his team's shots in overtime? (That one shot he didn't take actually being a tip in off a bad miss by him)

The guy has no idea how to run an offense.

That's not basketball IQ...

Anyways, the fact that Odom is competent enough to play for Phil Jackson and run in the triangle offense automatically takes him out of contention for having the worst IQ in the league.

Odom is a crafty player and is far from being bball incompetent.

His work ethic may be something else though...

Kwame Brown plays for Phil Jackson in the triangle offense as well, is he not in contention for this award too? Also, not being able to learn and change your cutting habits (to beat your defender off the ball) or not being able to stay focused when your team needs you during clutch stretches of games are certainly (negative) aspects of one's bball IQ. Don't know how you can argue that, whether you believe LO isn't poor in either category or not they're still both part of one's ability to think strategically on the basketball court.

gerald green. sometimes he takes a bad shot (often it is even a 3ball) early in the shot clock and he's not in a good position to shoot. he bails everyone out... plus he looks lost on defense sometimes

but on the other hand, if he has a hot hand he can nail a couple of 3's

Odom? Nah. Odom's problem to me has always been that he's mentally weak, a negative brain based attribute to be sure, but not the same as BBIQ, heck people with very high IQs often have problems with self-confidence and performing under pressure.

Meh, it's much easier to play the post in the triangle offense than it is to play a slasher... There is so much that goes into understanding the triangle that it's hard for us to judge odom on his cutting habits. The entire triangle offense comes into fruition when players are making cuts at certain times. There is something called the "moment of truth" or something like that when players have to cut based on where the ball is within the first line of the defense.

I really think you're mistaking the understanding of the game, with mental deficiencies.
