How did you come to that conclusion?

Yao is the superior passer, better free throw shooter, more skilled offensively, better in late game situations ( although not great)

Dwight is the better rebounder and the better shot blocker and that's about it.

Early on in the season Dwight was clearly the better player but he hasn't been able to sustain that level of play.

PimpORL must have been basing it on the 2 games Houston played Orlando this season:

Dec 19th:

Dwight Howard: 7-13 FGs, 21 points, 11 rebounds, 0 assist, 1 TO, 0 ST, 3 BS
Yao Ming: 7-18 FGs, 19 points, 17 rebounds, 2 assist, 3 TO, 2 ST, 3 BS

January 4th:

Dwight Howard: 5-11 FGs, 16 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 TO, 3 ST, 1 BS
Yao Ming: 10-18 FGs, 26 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 TO, 0 ST, 0 BS

BTW, TMac was missing from the January 4th game while Orlando had Rashard Lewis. Yao managed that stat line in the January 4th game while being constantly double teamed by Orlando.

Yup, definitely. Dwight Howard dominates Yao in all aspects

I'm always amazed at how little account is ever made for Yao's defense, which is exceptional.

After re-thinking the case, instead of rating Dwight slightly above Yao I must go the other way around - so hereby I'm declaring Ming #3 bigman in the NBA. ;-) At least until Howard proves me wrong - e.g. in the next playoffs.

BTW, not that it's decisive argument due to e.g. age difference, but head-to-head:

Dwight: 9,4 ppg/10 rpg/1,0 apg/1,6 spg/1,2 bpg/1 win.

Yao: 25,0 ppg/7,6 rpg/1,0 apg/0,2 spg/2,6 bpg/4 wins.

LOL, like in the two games the Rockets played Orlando this year?

Yeah, Dwight Howard, without Rashard in the lineup, is going to lead the Orlando Magic to a winning record, as Yao managed without TMac. I guess it's possible afterall, since Dwight is Superman

Howard outplayed Yao in that first game, despite Yao's end of the game stat padding.

Dwight had 6 less rebounds by Yao. Yao was playing without TMac in the 2nd half, while Rashard Lewis played throughout the game.

Sorry, Yao was the better player in the first game too.

No he wasn't. Howard badly outplayed him for 90% of the game and Yao got a bunch of boards and points at the end of the game to make it look closer.

I don't think Yao has had a game where he failed to reach double figures in any category.

I'm still not sure how the Magic beat Detroit with Dwight having such a bad game.

Dwight's good, he might even be better than Yao, but there is like zero seperation between them.

On a side note I think Dirk is being severely underrated by most people. If it weren't for last years playoffs I would definitely have Dirk at #2 above garnett.

After thinking it over again, I think Dirk should be #3. He's taken his team to the finals and he's had more playoff success than Dwight and Yao combined.

Right know Howard is probably the second or third best big in the league...

1. KG
2. Howard
3. Duncan( he is having a off year)
4. Bosh

Sure, but the Rockets never even tied the game late, and never had a chance for anything but a tie at the end. Give Yao credit for playing strong down the stretch of the game, but had he not been so thoroughly outplayed by Howard for the majority of the game, the Rockets would have won.

But I'm sure (and most people will agree too) that he'll be the best big man for sure in 3 years.

He's already so good, and has so much more room for improvement. That is scary beyond doubt.

Agreed Dwight is either 3rd or 4th behind KG, TD, Yao (maybe). But in 2-3 years no one will come close (maybe Oden) to him IMO if there was a Draft right now Dwight would probably go 1 maybe 2 behind Lebron and that is what its gonna be in 2 years Lebron 1 Dwight 2. I wouldnt be surprised if Dwight was 1 either.
