Smith or West

Post#1 » by conleyorbust » Wed Apr 30, 2008 12:44 am

Which one of these power-forwards has been better this season?

Similar as rebounders, West is better as a scorer and turns it over less and Smith is better as a defender and gets more assists.

Smith is the better defender. West is the better scorer. West is more a traditional PF as Smith roams around and will get steals and assists. Smith is better for a fast paced game and is probably better at finishing and driving inside, but West has an INSANE midrange game.

Tough choice, but I'd probably take Smith as it's already close, and Smith can really alter a teams offense with his threat to block shots, plus he's only 22 and still has potential.

Well, since the OP asked who's been better this season, I'm inclined to say David West.

David West's game isnt really flashy or anything. Kind of Tim Duncan like.. I'd say he is better THIS season. Smith is very good though.

One thing that would be interesting to see is how Smith do if he had played with a guy like Paul (it really really really hurts me to type that so please don't rub that in).

West gets a lot of points by moving effectively without the ball but until Bibby got to Atlanta Smith was really forced to do a lot of iso stuff... Still is. He's not bad at it but it would be nice to see us run more plays where he got the ball in motion and could use his athleticism to finish that way.

West and it ain't real close. IMO Smith is one of those guys who put up bigger numbers than their actual impact on the game.
