Rafer Alston vs. Rajon Rondo

Who would you guys take to be your starting point guard?

For my team, id probably opt for alston because hes a better 3pt shooter but unless you really need your pg to be able to be a good shooter id probably take rondo. I think they are comparable scorers but rondo does more of his stuff from mid range area to the paint.

Both are solid ball handlers too. It could go either way, if its a young team id opt for rondo to lead them.

As much as Toronto's offense requires a great distributor to be effective...Rondo, easily. Rafer's shot selection torpedoed many a game in his last stint with the team; as that was his finest shooting year, I shudder to think what he would do in a third audition.

I would never of made this statement 1 year ago. Hell, I have a hard time believing this now, but IMO Rafer has been better post all-star break.

This playoff series he's been amazing.

I think Rondo might be the better individual player but I think Alston is a better fit for the Rockets.

Rafer is actually real underrated defensively, he doesn't get beat too often and contests almost every shot. He has good defensive principals in terms of man to man D. As sad as it is, he's probably our second option without Yao and mainly his ability to space the floor is huge for our team. He's also become a much better finisher around the basket.

I just wish he was more consistent which is why Rondo might get the nod over him, but at least for this season I'd personally have Rafer for the Rockets.

And I'd say Rondo has pretty good teammates as well.

Rondo shoots 49%. His three point shot isn't that good, but he can still improve in that area. He doesn't shoot the three often, so it really doesn't effect his offensive efficiency that much.

Much like a younger Calderon. If you look at Calderon's 3p% in his rookie season, it was terrible. In his second season it wasn't great either, but he took limited amounts of them. I don't think Rondo will ever be as good a 3pt shooter as Calderon (he doesn't have the base to be a consistent long range shooter), but he will definitely improve his shot.

Rafer has played well in the playoffs, i'll give him that. However, he still shot under 40% for the regular season, which is abysmal. He's defense is nice, but he's still going to have trouble against stronger guards. Rondo can handle stronger guards a lot better than Alston.

In terms of playmaking, I would say it's quiet equal. I think if Rafer tried to facilitate more for his teammates, and focus on taking high percentage shots, that he could be a good player. He's got the skills to be at least. His shot selection is very sketchy, and he defines streaky shooter. He can really kill your team if he's not on.

Rondo for me. He's improving his shot percentage and selection. He's a great defender and distributor of the ball. He's the perfect guy for boston. He doesn't need to take over the game but he can get the job done.

Rafer is having a career year but he's still inconsistent.. I don't like his shot selection and he gets too cocky sometimes. I don't like street ballers in the pro games. (no offense intended)

Not commenting on the current playoffs, but still Rondo. Rafer is at his peak doing way better than I gave credit for. I equate Rafer now with a peak Rod Strickland. Rondo I equate with Sam Cassell. That's my take.

Though the team hasnt been at their best this series rondo is averaging 13ppg/4rpg/8apg/2.2 steals on 47% shooting.

The best stat for him though is he has 40 assists to 4 turnovers, a 10/1 A/TO ratio. I dont know what the record for a playoff series is but a 10/1 has to be somewhere near the top. Makes me appreciate what Chris Paul did in his series even more. A 12/1 A/TO ratio while scoring 24 a game, damn lol.

Rafer has reached around his prime IMO, meanwhile, most of us still can't see Rondo's ceiling.
