well he got one and he was on the downside of his career. i haven't been following the league since the Shaq trade, how many does Kobe have now?

Well, so far, Kobe has dispatched two popular arguments against him:

1) Kobe has never won MVP
2) Kobe can't get out of the first round without Shaq.

I won't be surprised if he proves your argument wrong after this season or the next.

Better than Magic Johnson? . . .

Paul turned 23 on Tuesday. . . .

When Johnson turned 23 in August 1982, he already was a two-time NBA Finals MVP and had led the Lakers to NBA titles in two of his first three seasons. . . .

I started watching the NBA in the 80s

I have never seen a point guard like Chris Paul

He's a better version of Isiah Thomas.

Great Leader, decision maker, defender, passer, good shooter

Everything a point guard needs

I hate to knock Magic, but c'mon, Magic had never been anything close to an MVP candidate at this age and wouldn't have had those Finals MVPs if he didn't have a supporting cast basically everyone in history would kill for. Not that I see it as a given that Paul's better than Magic, but there's a reason why Magic didn't end up with 8 Finals MVPs.

Again, people like to say it was the pick and roll that Stockton mastered, which he did, but his real damage was done on the break. Look at this video of Stock to get a realistic view of how he played.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=U_lE70C21ZA

That was John, just watch him handle the ball, his pass off of the dribble is literally unmatched, it was so good it and so unappreciated because it looked so easy. And his outlet passing was the best in the game during his time in the league, he started the break with his pass as good as PG in history.

But this has turned into a Stockton/Magic/Zeke thread instead of a Paul thread.

So basically I am saying that Paul is great, but there have been better.

I have a question regarding your video that last assist is it really an assist because Malone does make a dribble should that still be an assist? And also i heard that in Utah the scorekeepers helped stockton get extra assists? Not trying to start anything just a few things that i have observed and heard.

Stockton recieved an assist every 10th pass regardless if the scored.
no seriously

The rules have been changed and now a player can take 3 dribbles, 4 steps and can call a TO and if he scores the PG still gets the asst.

The rules on assts are much more lax over every decade. The % of asts of baskets is up alot over the 1960s.

Your right, Stock was better than Zeke.

In no way was Stock better than Zeke, he wasn't even the best player on his own team. Zeke was a 2 time champ, could get you 15 pts in any quarter while finishing the game with 10 assist. No one at the time would dare say Stockton was on Zeke's level. Not saying Stockton wasn't a legend but Zeke's peak was as good as any player in NBA history and he was only 6 foot tall.

No, that's not even close to the truth. Isiah had some great games, but like everyone with some great games: He could not do it at will, or else he'd be doing it all the time.

As for Isiah being the best player on his team, this is a good argument, but let's not forget that Isiah had one hell of a supporting cast, and that on a team that one through defense, he was a defensive role player as opposed to a defensive star.

The Boss of Bosses wrote:Chris is gonna have to put up a few more regular seasons and playoff appearances for me; he hasnt had a hall of famer career yet, although he does play like one. You need to have the career to back it up.

So if he won a title this year, and in dominant fashion, you'd still be hesitant?

In order to do that, keep in mind that he will have:

--shut down the best regular season team in the NBA last year (mavs)
--beaten the defending champs (spurs)
--beaten the mvp and the best team in the west (presuming lakers win)
--beaten the best team in the league this year (celtics, presuming they make it)

on paper that looks like the hardest road to the title ever, but so far he has made it look ridiculously easy. all in his first year in the playoffs, and in his third year in the league. if that's not enough, i don't know what else is. i didn't like the calls that "he was too inexperienced" when the Hornets were wrapping up the regular season, and i dont like these kind of remarks now. if i were a player theyd be perfect motivation for me to go and do exactly what everyone says i can't. he's turned the "old guard" of the west (spurs, mavs) into total jokes.
