Pau Gasol vs Jermaine O'neal vs Paul Pierce vs Rasheed

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Mon Jun 2, 2008 8:53 pm

I hear many say that Gasol is not a star, but when you compare him to guys like Pierce (6x allstar), Jermaine O'neal (6x allstar) and Rasheed (4x allstar) how could anyone say those guys are all better than Gasol?

Pierce may be better, but not the other 2 guys.

mentioning all-star appearances doesn't help your argument does it? gasol is a one time all-star, yet you don't see how he's not better than players that have made 4 or more?

Pierce is and has always been better, and JO definitely used to be better. As for Sheed, you could say he used to be better than Gasol, and probably still is when he tries.

Well, the other two guys IMO in their prime were better then Gasol. JO was a defensive force, and a terrific 20,10 player, that even lead a team to 61 wins once. Sheed is a very skilled big men, Gasol is great but IMO his prime isn't better then the other two guys.

Why do you have 3 powerforward/center combos then 1 small forward?

Paul Pierce obviously first
Rasheed he is one of the best man to man defenders in the league and his offensive game is diverse and its effective.
The other two are arguable but I prefer Gasol because JO is as fragile as a glass vase. But when healthy Jermsinr is a force is to be reckoned with.

JO has been shaky the past couple of years. Sheed has obviously declined. Pierce has a much more accomplished career than Gasol but today I think Pau has a greater impact on the court.

How many all-star appearances do you expect Pau to have when playing in a conference with Tim Duncan, KG (except this year), Amare, Dirk, Boozer, Yao, Shaq (when he was a Laker), Brand?

He's just unlucky to be playing in the West. He'd make the East team over Rasheed.

Pierce may be better, but not the other 2 guys.

If we are talking about in their primes, then there is no question JO was better than Pau. HE was putting up 20/10, blocking 2.5 shot per game and was an elite defender in the league. Even with that being said, I dont think many people really considered JO a "star" because he never had the ability to lead his team as the #1 option and was always more comfortable being the quieter #2 guy (much like Pau).

I think Sheed and Pau are probably comparable in their primes, buts Sheeds defense might give him the edge (but Pau's all around skills on offense are far superior to Sheed's)

As far as Pierce.....I dont even know how to compare them

JO was definitely the first option for the 61 team, and was the best player. I think if he hadn't hyper extended his knee, they could have very well been in the title game.

I think injuries derailed a Wolves/Pacer final...

If they are all healthy I'm ranking them

Pierce
O'Neal
Gasol
Wallace.

I think Wallace is way overrated some times, there are plenty of guys who have loads of talent who don't play up to it, why does Rasheed get such a big pass?
