Drafting each decade

Post#1 » by CellarDoor » Thu Jun 12, 2008 6:43 pm

Construct a team of players by using only drafts every ten years (66, 76, 86, 96, 06). You can use 2008 draft players or dip into the 50s.
Rules: You must you only one player from each draft for your starters. In Other words you can't use the 1984 draft for four starters. You can't have people playing behind someone they are superior to (so no using Jordan behind random SG from the 74 draft).
Make a ten man rotation, subs can come from whatever draft.
I'm taking the 5s for my birth year (85). I'm pretty sure i'm going to get smoked...hah
Starters: CP3 (05) We all know and love him. He's coming off one of the most statistically dominant seasons for a PG in history.
Thompson (75) G/F of the 70s and early 80s. Hall of Fame, very efficient scorer and solid all around player.
Cunningham (65) Great scorer, solid passer, good rebounder.
KG (95) Versatile, amazing defender, jack of all trades who will benefit from the team around him.
Ewing (85) Great center of the 90s, beast in the post on both sides of the ball.
Reserves: Rick Barry (65), Joe Dumars (85), Deron Williams (05), Bogut (05), Rasheed Wallace (95)

Starters:

PG - Jason Kidd '94
SG - Michael Jordan '84
SF - Jerry Sloan '64
PF - Dwight Howard '04
C - Bill Walton '74

Reserves: Willis Reed '64, George Gervin '74, Hakeem Olajuwon '84, Grant Hill '94, Ben Gordon '04

I picked one starter and one reserve from each draft. I also didn't necessarily pick the best player as a reserve, but instead the best who filled a role on the team.

Some of those reserves are arguably better than their starters though, which was a stipulation. For instance I don't think anyone views Walton > Olajuwon. Otherwise I'd have Karl Malone as a backup to KG!

You're right. I'm a Walton nut-hugger - but even I can't put him above Hakeem.

Edit in progress.

Pls post some links to these draft classes otherwise it requires too much work, hence the lack of responses.

One player from each draft as a starter. You've got to pick someone from '69
