Zach Randolph vs. Vince Carter

Post#1 » by AIfan3 » Fri Jun 13, 2008 2:20 pm

Who would you rather have? (And before some people start bashing me for this thread, I just thought i'd bring up some quotes from a knicks fan)..

#1knickfan wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

Please feel free to quote me whenever I used the empty stats argument on VC. I have said he's a ball hog. I've said that he is not a team player. I have said that he has quit on his team. I have said that he is injury prone. I have also said that his defense sucks. I have also said I wouldn't trade anything of value for him. I certainly wouldn't trade Randolph for him.

What does cancer have to do with Randolph. He's no cancer. Carter is a cancer. Stephon Marbury is a plague. Randolph is a saint in comparison.

This is absurd. Carter is actually a very good scorer for his position, ITO efficiency, volume, and versatility. If Carter is such a ballhog, how did he play alongside Jason Kidd? Truth is, Carter plays better off the ball than just about every wing other than Kobe.

Carter and it's not close. Did I mention Carter is also a marketable player?

i think your taking his quotes out of context or at least not reading his comments the way he intended. i don't think he ever said randolph is better than carter, which is what this thread is asking. he said he wouldn't trade randolph for carter, which could involve many factors other than who's a better player.

Carter wasting his immense talent and not caring is still so much better than Randolph its not even funny.

There was a time when imo Carter was among the more overrated players in the league.

Now he is easily among the most underrated. Even with his injury years included, he's an annual 24/4/6 who can shoot outside and take it to the hole, AND he's been a damned good defender in NJ. AND his playoff numbers go up pretty much across the board.

great post..he's also one of the better passers at his position in the NBA, very unselfish player, can play off the ball if he's needed to because of his shooting ability..

I really hope Vince gets to go to a place where he can play the #2 option..hopefully Cleveland..

As flawed as he may be Vince is still overwhelmingly a positive force for his team. Did he quit on the Raps to force his way out? Yes. Has he had injury problems in the past? Yes. Does he still go to the hole like he did when he was 23? No.

But the past few years he's been relatively healthy, played hard and put forth some pretty damn solid ball. I'd love to have him in Detroit. In fact I'd be happy to trade Rip & Dice for him.

Zach...is pretty much the Antichrist in a bball sense of the word. He's horrible defensively, is lazy and a black hole on offense. He's a team killer. Zach isn't even particularly efficient for a bigman. Pretty much the only PF/Cs who average at least 14 ppg with a worse FG% than him are Dirk, Jamison & Sheed (who all shoot a bunch of 3's) and JO (who at least plays defense and passes the ball). I wouldn't trade anybody on the Pistons roster for Zach. In fact I pretty much wouldn't want him under any reasonable conditions because he is overwhelming a negative influence, despite what he puts up in a boxscore.

I am sorry, but Carter is definitely the better player.

I more intriguing comparison would be a Randolph vs Redd one. Both are bad defensively, both are black holes, both are putting up empty stats on bad teams, and both have big and long contracts [and Redd's contract is bigger, is it not?].

But I see a gigantic difference in precieved value by RealGM'ers on both these players. [Ie; Cleveland fans not wanting to trade Zach Randolph for Ben Wallace, but will trade much, much more for Redd]
