Rank the Wings

Post#1 » by Cruel_Ruin » Thu Jun 19, 2008 12:43 am

Rank the top 15 wings in the NBA, as in those who can play the 2 and/or the 3. Tweener guards who play the 1/2 (Arenas, Iverson) don't count, tweener forwards who play the 3/4 (Smith, Jamison) don't count.

Tier 1
1. Kobe
2. Lebron

Tier 2
3. Wade
4. Tmac
5. Pierce

Tier 3
6. Anthony
7. J. Johnson
8. Carter
9. Ginobli
10. Butler

Tier 4
11. Artest
12. Allen
13. Roy
14. Martin
15. Jefferson

Let me know if I missed anyone.

Looks good to me... One could make a case for Hamilton and Iguoudala though

I like this list a lot, I might disagree with the bottom tiers, but I dont have time to go over the insignificant players :D

i like your list harlem, especially in putting wade above the other tier 2 guys. i don't think magz has any business being on the list. i'd put m. miller, g. wallace, j. howard, s. jackson, h. turkoglu all above him.

Why is Carter not considered on the same level as Pierce? Their stats are pretty much identical.

How/why do people have Johnson in a tier higher than Roy?

In multiple polls that took place over the season, Roy was the one who received more votes on who would you have now / later, and most outsiders (not PDX / ATL fans) agreed they're pretty much even.

Was it pushing Boston to 7?

Finals MVP and playing later in the season skews such lists

Roy outplayed Joe in the first head to head (although Joe outscored him by 20 in the second) and I'd say that Roy's numbers were better than Joe for the season but Johnson seemed to snap out of his funk towards the end of the year and was absolutely ridiculous for the home stretch putting up 25-7-4 for a month and a half until we clinched before the last three games. That and the huge game 4 he had probably tilt perception in Johnson's favor.

The way I look at it is that Johnson's superior shooting allow him to be better on any given night if his shot if falling but Roy's superior athleticism allow him to get by his man more consistently and get better shots. Hopefully the Hawks snag a backup for him so he doesn't suffer from exhaustion for half the season again.

Anyway, if Wade can come back completely healthy he has the ability to push himself into that top grouping. He has proven as much as Kobe and Lebron have in the playoffs, he just has to be healthy consistently.

Top Tier (Elite): LeBron (1), Kobe (2), Wade (3)
2nd Tier (Elite): Pierce (4), Iverson (5), Carmelo (6), McGrady (7), Carter (8), Johnson (9), Arenas (10)
3rd Tier: Ginobili (11), Butler (12), Allen (13), Hamilton (14), Iguodala (15), Roy (16), Martin (17), Redd (18)
4th Tier: Maggette (19), Richardson (20), Gordon (21), Ellis (22), McCants (23), Mobley (24), Davis (25)

Wade might actually drop to 2nd tier unless we see something out of him next season. I'll reserve judgment after he averaged 25-7 playing hurt.

Hedo Turkoglu and Stephen Jackson are growing very bored of being overlooked...

for my list..

-Wade is in the 1st tier if he comes back completely healthy..no doubt about that..but as of right now, he isn't with Lebron or Kobe, but he's better than the others either way..

-I love Vince, but I put Pierce ahead of him because of effort(both offensively and defensively)..Carter is always difficult to rank..

-I completely forgot about Stephen Jackson, he definitely fits on the list somewhere..I didn't list Turkoglu even though he played swingman a lot this year, because I feel like his natural position is the same as Lewis..they both look like they should play the 3/4..same with Gerald Wallace..

It's amazing how many spots Pierce has jumped after the playoffs and how many spots Ginobli dropped after the playoffs. Remember during the season people were saying Ginobli was #2 behind Kobe and even that was debatable?

Cause Pierce is better than T-Mac and the way he played in the finals.

the Spurs are my team, and I'd never rank Manu that high..

the reason so many fans rank him that high is because his inconsistency is overshadowed by his explosive performances..fans are going to remember his 30+ point games better than his terrible games where he's passing it out of bounds every few plays, especially in the regular season..

the reason he was so criticized in the playoffs was because his inconsistency was on display on national TV in every game and happened throughout 7-game series'..that's just how Manu plays..he's extremely high risk/high reward..

still had a great regular season too though..
