The King of New York vs. The Human Highlight Film. Who was more explosive in their prime?

Similar-styled players (at least in King's case, before his last major injury). At their peak, they were as close as you like in terms of explosiveness.

'Nique was a bit more versatile as a scorer though, especially fro 87-88 onward. He was a better bank shooter. Of course, King completely reinvented his offensive game after his knees went and all that, so he's got to get credit there.

Tough call, I don't think I can honestly choose between the two.

Being a Pistons fan I recently had the oppertunity to watch the 1st rd series between Det-NY in 84. King set the record for PPG in that series and he was as good as a prime MJ. I truely believe King is one of the most underrated players of all time and when you talk about peak or another short term criteria you have to consider him as one of the best 5 SFs to ever play. I have NP taking him over Baylor for instance.

Nique although disliked by many here was a great great player who in a loaded era took teams of questionable abilities to great heights. When I was growing up Nique was the very defintion of the SF. Untill 1988-89 the argument of MJ vs Nique was very valid in my highschool. Hes considered a nobody by many here but I guess so would be MJ if he had never reached the NBA Finals in his career.

These are 2 SFs with LBJ type domination. IMHO the longer the period you judge the better Nique gets. Nique has the adv from career to decade and then King gets better from 5 yr to 1 yr to 1 series.

I agree. This is one of the best comparisons I"ve seen on this board. Well done, Iceberg. And I agree as well that King is one of the most underrated players on these boards. He gets forgotten a bit, but before the injury especially he was unstoppable. 'Nique was, of course, explosive as all get-out as well and could go off for 48 on any given night, and he was the more spectacular player, but King had beautiful touch and could score basically any way he wanted as well.
