Miller was a prolific 3pt shooter almost from the word "Go" in his career, so any era-related differences are largely irrelevant. He worked off of screens to get whatever shots he could and that meant a lot of threes, more and more as his career progressed. He took 5+ 3PA in 8 of 10 seasons at one point in his career, so it's not like that gap in attempts was an indicator of a huge stylistic difference, it's just an indicator that Allen was more successful while doing it more often.
Remember too that Reggie's career FGA/g is 12.6 and peaked at 15.4 compared to Ray's career FGA/g of 16.5 and peak of 21.0. That his percentages are close to Reggie's, or higher in some cases, is stunning based on volume of shots (and type of shots). Ray's shot was too sweet to be denied even though he was sometimes shooting nearly double the number of shots per game as was Reggie.

Re: Ray Allen vs. Reggie Miller
Ah, we discuss one of the more overrated players on RealGM -- Reggie Miller. (*cue wtirerman*)
Even though Ray is a better all around player and beat Reggie at his own forte, shooting, people still will come up with a random/rose-colored reason to pick Miller.
And people underrate Ray's clutchness. While he isn't at Reggie's level he is still a clutch player.

The best engine in the world is the vagina -- started with one finger, self-lubricating, takes any size piston and changes it's own oil every month. Pitty it's so temperamental

The best Miller is much better than the best Allen.

Re: Ray Allen vs. Reggie Miller
I'd prolly go with Allen just due to his overall game. The thing about Miller that makes me think if he is even HOF worthy is...only 5 all star appearances. He was the face of the Pacers for about 15 years, he did 3 seasons in a row led his team to the ECF/Finals from 1998-2000 with Larry Bird as head coach. But its just weird seeing that 5 on his all star appearances, you'd think he would have more.

Re: Ray Allen vs. Reggie Miller
The only thing that Reggie has over Ray is his sheer number of clutch/memorable performances, and the fact that a lot of them took place in New York, which means he got a lot of attention despite playing in a relatively small market.
But Allen is the better shooter, and better player than Miller. And he has a ring to boot!
That said, I'm really looking forward to writerman's impassioned defense of Reggie where he not only says that Reggie is much a better player than Ray, but he's also better than Jordan and Shaq and Kobe and every player besides Wilt

Ray Allen is a better pure shooter. He also has the better stats.
Reggie might be a one-dimensional player, but I'd rather take him as my franchise player. No one fears Ray Allen. But Reggie scared many opposing fans. He's definitely one of those players whose impact is not adequately represented by his stats, and you'd appreciate that if you saw him play.
