imo, yes. vital for spacing, it's not like star players take all the shots, sometimes they need to create space for other players. and when playing with 2 all-star calibre players it's even more important. but aw'rite, we can agree to disagree.

it's not necessary for a big to shoot the 3...

having the ability to shoot a 15-18 foot jumper has just about the same impact space-wise (not to mention it puts them in better position to grab offensive rebounds).

and guess what? duncan has that ability.

but I'd really like to know why you think having two all-star caliber players would make spacing even more important...

agreed.

it means that denver has the most delusional mangement in the entire league.

this is probably the only team who would really trade for a 20 million dollar a year cancer...

hell...this an organization who made an attempt to acquire zach randolph before the trade deadline.

pierce's offense is slightly less than melo's...?

R I G H T . . .

i really don't care anymore. I've provided a detailed explanation as to why I'd choose melo over pierce. of course I made my posts in order to persuade people who don't know the type of circumstances that melo has to play in.

each of us is entitled to our own opinion...

he is a career 44% scorer...and that type of offensive inefficiency is not enough to lead any team into contention, disregarding bizarre circumstances (such as an extremely weak conference).
Field goal percentage doesn't factor in the fact that Pierce takes (and hits) significantly more 3's than Carmelo does like TS% does.

TS% for Pierce:
2007-2008: .599
2006-2007: .571
2005-2006: .582
Career: .560

TS% for Carmelo:
2007-2008: .568
2006-2007: .552
2005-2006: .563
Career: .545

Pierce is a more efficient scorer than Carmelo is and certainly not an inefficient scorer.

Pierce was the 1st scoring option for your 2007-2008 NBA champions. Garnett was the Celtics best player, but Pierce was our #1 offensive option. I always considered the team who wins the championship to be a contender, but maybe that's just me?

Pierce has a good situation THIS YEAR. Every other year was basically the Nuggets, slowed down, minus Iverson. That's why those 25 ppg 45% years are significant.

I'd know exactly how Pierce would play in DEN's offense.. drive, foul.. drive, foul...pump-fake,shot attempt and foul.. 3 point attempt. Because that's how he played for the past 10 years with Boston with no other option outside of Walker in his ealier years.

It's intresting that you believe it'd be easier to win with Melo of right now over the Pierce of right now. I think Pierce's unselfishness and spacing makes it easier to surround him with great options and have them contribute then Melo's deadly.. but possesion expensive style. I guess it's just two diffrent ways to get to same boat.
