So if I'm understanding correctly, a rough translation is:
"I cannot judge anyone as _____ until its very apparent they are _____, therefore no one else can." The ironic part is I was telling the pro-Yi base about this stuff last season - so doesn't that disprove the whole 'you can't compare them based on X minutes'? I compared them, and was accurate, with them playing 0 NBA minutes!
I'm sure the great minutes you got from Mike Ruffin and Awvee Storey, surely in meaningful games and sustained throughout the season, were just as good as Wrights.
Anyone who watched Wright play this season knows he's a good player right now, regardless if he can or cannot sustain it for 30 mpg consistently... which is an unknown, not a fact either way. Regardless, based on the consistency and confidence Wright displayed this season, its quite obvious he knows how to play the game and can do it well. Yi needs to work on a lot to be as effective as Wright is/was - and this is not based off of #s and boxscores (so PC regulars beware!), but based on simple fundamentals and basketball skills.

Wow that was the biggest homer post I've read in a while, and coming from me who makes plenty of them that's a very big statement. I never make them about Yi though, because he hasn't done nearly enough to convince me in a shortened rookie campaign. Perhaps you should follow that advice.
According to you your comparison is correct, according to virtually every other poster in this thread it is incorrect, I wonder who's right.....
I can judge talent quickly, but most people who try to judge talent off seeing a guy play about 30 minutes for a season are either idiots, homers or are proven to be horribly bad judges down the track, I chose not to do that to Wright. I didn't see enough of Wright (neither did anyone this season except for absolute die hard W's fans who didn't miss anyone one of his 300 odd minutes) to have the right to judge him. But if your going to force me into judgement based on this season alone I'll take Yi 1000 times out of 1000, is that definitive enough for you? You say it's all down to simple fundamentals and basketball skills, yet from what I've seen Yi unquestionably is a better shooter, has a better handle and is a better defender. Wright's strength appears to be his athleticism and jump hook. Are you sure he has better skills and fundamentals?
I'm far from convinced on Yi, but his rookie campaign was clearly superior to Wright's, apoligies for not watching Wright 50 times to catch a couple of hundred minutes.

Re: Brandan Wright vs. Yi Jianlian
Enough of this cropped up argument "He played well despite limited minutes". Since Wright is buried deep in the bench garbage time has to be accounted for, and as the Bucks fan stated previously, Yi has been playing against starters until he started struggling three months into the season, Wright never has to do that. From the sound of it you make it as if Nellie is trying to build up mental obstacles for Wright to jump through and he somehow 'presevere' from that treatment. Right now, Wright is the 10th-12th men on a team that shows some promise, nothing more, nothing less.

Virtually every poster responding is a Bucks fan who hasn't seen Wright play.
And you've now joined them with more misinformation... feel free to actually read what was posted here about how good Yi's jumpshooting is (re: the 82games.com links help), the fact that Yi's better handle didn't allow him to create his own shot (also 82games) or setup teammates, or that Yi's a better defender - which if youve really seen both play, is hilarious. But I'll chalk that up to having to watch Charlie Villanueva play - anything would look great compared to that clown.
But don't let the #s sway your decision... you hang on to those year old, hyped up reports about what Yi could do in the CBA. And be sure to cling to those Wright stereotypes of him only being a good athlete w/a jump hook.
So if I can get this straight, again, you say you can judge talent quickly, but choose not to, and then you try and do it, but really only use stereotypes about what you have heard? Gotcha.
I really would like if you actually read the thread... all of this stuff has been gone over before.

"Wrong again... read the thread."
You mean 2 minutes every game?
This shouldn't have gone to 3 pages. Both guys are just as unproven, but Yi has played more and shown more of what he's capable of than Wright, no one is saying Yi is a better player.

Re: Brandan Wright vs. Yi Jianlian
I will not for the life of me understand why so many people who have rarely, if ever seen a person play can throw so much b-ess out there...
Plenty of people have said Yi's better...
Another thing I don't understand - if YOU personally havent seen enough to evaluate a player, why does it then make it impossible for others?
Neither is fully developed, obviously, and this long drawn out part wasn't about whos better in the future. But its hilarious to see people just quote year old draft capsules when they weren't ever accurate to begin with, and trying to use that as an argument, when Wright's floor play was way better than that...
