Carmelo or Vince Carter... Who's better

Post#1 » by Peanut » Sun Jul 6, 2008 11:27 pm

I'm talking as of right now. I think its Carmelo by a good margin, but another board feels Carter is better.

Carter may be a better playmaker, but Carter doesn't have the impact that Carmelo has on a game.

Most people won't agree with me, mainly because of the disdain for Carter by many fans. But I choose Vince. If anyone cared to watch his games (seriously who cares about the Nets right now), his impact is much greater than what people give him credit for and he does it in far more facets of the game than Melo. The funny thing is, I personally believe if Melo was utilized in the correct way, this wouldn't be much of a comparison, but he's not..

I'll take Vince Carter as well, and I hate him. He averages like six assists per game last season and plays some defense.

I took Vince, but it's close.

Neither strike me as #1 guys that can win a championship as the leading player, although Melo would be a better #1 than Vince. However, I feel like Vince can better serve as a #2 on a great team than Melo can because he is a better playmaker and three-point shooter.

This is based on recent history only, and going forward, it's obviously Carmelo.

Carter. Vince is one of the more complete players in the nba. I feel like sometimes Carmelo just jacks up shots because he hasn't shot the ball for a few minutes.

I'm going to say Vince, the better shooter, the better athlete, the better BALL HANDLER, the better play maker, and the better winner. Melo can barely lead a team into the playoffs with a supporting cast that is every talented. Vince is also the better dunker ;)

Wow I am shocked at the love for Vince Carter here.

this is strange..

Vince is one of my top 3 favorite players, but I'd take Melo..

I'll take Vince's all-around game, but you can't pass up on Anthony's youth and the fact that he's a more consistent player than Carter, which speaks volumes about VInce..Melo isn't known as a motivated player with heart, but he still has more than Vince..

^ I don't really think you can bring youth into this because he was asking us to compare who is the better player right now, not who we'd rather have on our favorite team / who we'd rather start a franchise with, if that was the question this would be Melo EASILY... But since it's not... ^

I'd go with Vince he has a better all-around game isn't exactly a slouch when it comes to scoring (Anthony's specialty).

I do agree with one of the poster's above though, if Melo was used properly I would most likely give Melo the nudge over Vince.

well I meant youth as in the aspects that come with it..more explosive at this point, more athletic at this point, less broken down..

I would rather have Vince as a #2 than Melo though..I'd easily take VC in his prime as well..

like I say every time..if Vince goes to another team, gets his motivation back(consistently, like he did in his first few years with the Nets) and gives you heart every game, the guy is still a top 15 player IMO..he's still one of the most talented players in the NBA..the heart and motivation are always a concern though..

Carter has a more all-around game but I am inclined to prefer Carmelo.

IMO, if he wasn't playing with the league's highest-usage player in Iverson, he would easily be in the discussion of best scorer in the league. He's not the scorer that Kobe is but he's equally effective with his percentages and volume, so you can't argue with the results. Carmelo has also stepped up one of the biggest knocks on his game. We knew from the NCAAs and World Championships that Carmelo could be a dominant rebounder. This year he was second-best from the SF position. Now he just needs to step up his defense.

Carter isn't the finisher that Melo is, but he has a dynamic game that both involves creating for himself and others, and moving without the ball. He's a solid rebounder at his spot. I think his scoring will go back up next season. And his defense is average, so he beats Melo in that category.

I just think that Melo is a more unique talent. I could take Pierce or Vince or Johnson and not care much about the difference. But there aren't many small forwards I would take over Carmelo. His style makes it much easier to build a contender around (although the Nuggets may have you thinking otherwise).

they are 2 of the most underated players in the league at this point.i would go with carmelo by a very small margin because he is younger.

Melo'

Overall I like both of them about equal but Melo is the undeniable most clutch player for wings in the NBA. His offensive game is harder to stop then Carters is one on one and when the game is on the line he puts the ball in the basket.

I believe he had a year with what 6 game winners? For both franshise players I'll take the one that can win the game for me rather then the one that can evlevate his teammates better.

Vince Carter, but in about 1-2 years Carmelo Anthony will pass him.
