I can understand if you don't want to go with Oden/Aldridge, but Aldridge and West are comparable and if you think Chandler is even close to how good Oden will be (even if he doesn't meet expectations), you have got to be delusional.

Comparable? David West is a frikkin all star how can you say they're comparable?!

Yes I know he made the allstar game but if you watch them both play I don't think you can say its that far fetched to say they are comparable. Heck a year from now it could be aldridge way out in front because he still has a lot of potential to grow in to.

In less than a year? I doubt that, you're really overrating Greg Oden and LMA's potential. Tyson Chandler is already one of the best centers in the league, for Greg Oden to top that next year he would also need to be one of the best centers in the league, which I simply don't see happening. In order for LMA to top David West, he would also need to be one of the best PF's in the league and we all know that the PF position is one of the most competitive in this league.

Overrating? Look at their stats. Aldridge is a heck of a lot closer to West than you're willing to give credit for.

And lest we forget that Oden is the best center prospect since TD. Is it really that much of a stretch to suggest he'll do better than Tyson's 12 points, 12 rebounds, one assist and one block per game?

Tyson Chandler being one of the best centers in the league? Doubtful, except for maybe the fact that there is a massive lack of real centers in the league right now. Even if Oden is a complete bust in terms of his potential I think most people would agree he could be as good as Chandler. I mean the man can dunk and block shots, and thats all chandler really does (and rebound).

Why? Because we think Oden can become better than Chandler? lol Lest you forget, Oden has the potential to be one of the best bigs ever. And it's not just Blazer fans that are saying that, people have been saying that about him long before he was drafted to Portland.

And Aldridge is just scratching the surface of his potential. He showed a lot of growth in the last two months of of last season, and played really well. It's not too much of a stretch to say that Aldridge will be better than West eventually, considering that their stats are close to the same, and that West is 28 and Aldridge is 22.

I'm fine with people picking LMA and Oden for the future. But not for right now, which is what the question is asking. Portland is just full of "potential" at this moment. There's no way you can choose them over players in their prime right now. Did you see David West explode in the playoffs against Timmy? He's been doing stuff like that all year. He's just been really underappreciated because he plays with Paul.

I also like Chandler/West and Bynum/Gasol tie, followed by Dwight + Lewis. I refuse to choose JO/Bosh now because I couldn't bare to be letdown from high expectations as bad as Bargnani let me down.

rofl, no such thing as brand/kaman

wat about brand/dalembert that's a deadly defensive frontcourt, and dalembert lives for boards so when brand puts up a shot they have dalembert down low...only problem is that dalembert cant score...

i would have voted for west/chandler cuz they're proven and very good, but i felt homerish and went with bosh/jo :D

i dont like gasol since he is the softest guy in the nba so i didnt vote for him and bynum, altho i believe they will be fierce...

btw,

why arent zach randoph and eddy curry being mentioned?? :D

You guys are getting your balls blue about this "never stepped onto an nba court" issue when the OP didn't even specifically say "as constituted now". Half the fun of sports is talking about the future.

Brand/Kaman can't even be discussed. The season they played together they weren't the best, the season after that Brand was injured, and next season they won't even be teammates.

Tyson/West is good, but I think there's a distinct ceiling on those two unless Tyson suddenly grows an offensive game that doesn't consist of alleyoops or putbacks.

Boozer/Okur are terrible defensively. They have to be on fire for it to work.

JO/Bosh who the hell is stepping into the paint?

Yao/Scola I think this is solid except it's hard for them to deal with agile bigs like Boozer, Amare, etc.

Oden/Aldrige I think everyone would agree that Oden's floor is probably...Tyson Chandler. So looking into the next year the difference is that West is better than Aldridge. Could see that changing as soon as next year as well.

Gasol/Bynum Gasol finally moves back into his more natural position and Bynum just needs to be Tyson Chandler. This is probably every bit as good as the Chandler/West tandem

Lewis and Howard. One of the top rebounding combos. One of the highest and most efficient scoring. Both pretty good defenders.

Can I change my vote? Lesson learned, next time I will read the thread before voting. Even though I am admittedly a Blazer homer, if the question is who this the best Bigman combo right now - I would vote any number of those combos before LMA and Oden. Simply because Oden has not played in the NBA yet. At least you know what you're most likely to get from all of the other players as they've succeeded in the NBA already.

I think JO and Bosh could be scary good, assuming JO can get back to playing at an All Star level.

Amare and Shaq is scary good, assuming Shaq can come back in better shape than he has been in the last 3 years, and stays healthy.

Kaman and Brand would have been very good. Too bad Brand and his agent turned out to be liars.

Chandler and West are very good, and are the most proven of anyone on the list, not necessarily as individual talents but as a tandem. So, if I could re-vote, my choice for today would be Chandler and West.

As a Blazer homer, I hope LMA and Oden can compete with the other guys on the list as the best big man tandem. In the future, I think they will.
