Al Thornton vs Thaddeus Young

Post#1 » by darbstar » Mon Jul 14, 2008 4:45 am

After thinking which team would be better with Brand 76s or Clippers i then thought about which player is better out of thronton or young?

Who is better now? who will be better long term? who is better scorer? who is better defender?
are both sf's?

comments please

Better now: that's a tough one. Al probably, but he is five years older than Thaddeus.

Long term: No question it has to be Thaddeus.

Better scorer? Thornton is a great scorer already; Thaddeus will develop.

Defender? Thaddeus already has NBA-level defensive fundamentals after not coming in as a defender-type. Thornton has a way to go.

SFs? Thaddeus will probably end up a SF, he played more PF last season. Thornton, you'd think, is also a SF for life.

Thad as a scorer isn't about him necessarily developing besides his shot. He apparently has been a scorer all his life. It's about his role on the team developing. He has an incredible basketball Iq coupled with one of, if not the, best post game I've seen from a 19 year old sf. He just isn't going to be a major offensive option unless he develops the 3 ball w/ brand and Iguodala.

I think right now it is a toss up. In the future, and likely soon, Thad has got him by a country mile.

isnt thornton like half a decade older? I would much prefer a player like Thad who seems to be less of a straight volume scorer, but a much more intelligent and deadly one

Sixers faced the same decision to make on draft night,

I think they made the right choice.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

If Al wasn't older than my grandfather it would be a much tougher decision. But I weigh having an AARP card in your rookie year as a negative.

Take off your homer-glasses because it IS a close one. Everyone gets so hyped up with potential that it clouds their judgement. Thornton is clearly the better player right now, and still has much room to develop as well.

In the future, tough one. I'd probably go with Young, because he seems like he'll be a much better defender. Al will be the much better scorer in the future, though.
