J.O VS. Brand who ya got

Post#1 » by starvinmarvin17 » Sun Jul 20, 2008 2:54 am

well they are both from the east so expect to see alot of these future big man battles

id go with JO just cuz brand just came off a huge injury & hes a bit better on D
both are really good but if i have to chose one it would prolly go with JO

now i know JO also came off a pretty big injury but still i think he can dominate more in the low post both on the offensive and defensive part of the court

i wanna know ur opinions on this

Brand easily...no analysis needed!

your reasoning makes no sense..

JO's much more injury prone than Brand..and Jermaine isn't "dominant" in the post, which is shown by his consistently low FG%..

easily Brand..

this would have been an interesting comparison a few years ago..

I think JO should have a nice bounce back season playing next to Bosh in Toronto, but this isn't really close. Brand EASILY.

We had this argument a couple weeks ago on the Raps board, which basically shook down to whether the superior talent in the Bosh/Brand pairing outweighed the negatives of having Bosh at center full-time, without a dominant weakside defender (I'd still go with Brand over JO).

Take it out of that context, and this is a landslide in Brand's favour.

Brand's better, but not really by a landslide as people claim imo

Brand is clearly superior on offense and has been his entire career, but O'Neal is a fantastic defender when healthy. Good post defender, blocks a lot of shots, and takes charges. Brand's no slouch here, but from what I've seen, O'Neal can have a bigger impact on defense.

I'd still choose Brand.

Brand is the far better player offensively with his automatic jumper and he is also a good defender. And even with Brand coming off surgery I'd still put my money on him playing more games at a higher level than Jermaine.

Brand, by a lot. In fact, I can't think of anything that JO does better than Brand.

Well. I think that JO's defense is clearly better than Brand's.

Still EB though, huge offensive gap between the 2

There was a time when JO was clearly better than Brand. But now times have changed and JO has been hampered with one too many injuries that make Brand better.

It's like this:

Brand>JO

NOT

Brand>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>JO

I would say:

Defense: JO > Brand
Offense: Brand >> JO
Injury risk: JO is more of a risk in my opinion (Brand missed all but 8 games last season due to a freak injury, but played 80, 79 and 81 games the 3 years before. JO has a nagging knee injury, and has played 42, 69, 51 and 44 games over the last 4 seasons)

So Brand by a decent margin overall. I say this as a Raps fan by the way.

How about making the playoffs.

I tired of this crap just because the board is flooded with Raps fans the only way non rap fans can get them back is by downgrading there players(happens with knick players way to often).

If both players are healthy I would go with Oneil he is a seven footer for crying out loud NOT and undersized power forward who made the playoffs ONCE.

Brand, but not by a landslide like everyone's saying. We'll see how JO is now that he's completely healthy.

JO is better defensively, although Brand is still very good and the margin is smaller than it is at the other end of the floor where Brand has a more substantial advantage. Brand is also better on the glass, and despite his one big injury last season has proven to be more durable through out his career.

How can you disregard injuries and staying healthy, than use winning as reason to pick JO?

How are we downgrading Raptors players by saying the EXACT same things that were being said about JO when he was a Pacer?

Brand >>> JO.
