Foye vs. Bayless

They are both point guards selected in the lottery, with a scoring mentality and have similar height, I think foye is 6'4 and bayless is 6'3.

Assuming Foye has never played in the NBA (still in college), and he is in the same draft as Bayless and are coming out the same year, as a prospect, who would you take?

bayless is 5 years younger than foye, so i'd take bayless.

but i liked foye coming out of college more than i liked bayless

Bayless' freshman stats were comparable to Foye's senior stats. He seems more gifted as a scorer, posting better percentages on similar volume, with less polish. Bayless was definitely the better shooter. They seem pretty similar defensively. Almost identical in size and as athletes. Foye had probably shown a tiny bit more in the way of point guard skills. Foye also had a lot more team success and played against tougher competition.

Still, given the age difference, it's tough not to go with Bayless here.

Foye looked real good towards the end of last season and will definetly be a legitimate scorer in the league. He had some monster games last year and i could see him putting up stats like Mo Williams or Monta Ellis for now and I cant give him a ceiling. I know Bayless played well in summer leagues and im sure he will be a great player in the league but given the fact that it was pointed out that he's 5 years younger, i may be more inclined to gamble on him

Foye was playing way out of position in college on a guard heavy team, he was actually a SF for Villanova. I like his strength to go with the athletic ability better, he can already play and guard the 2 effectively, and could still become a PG.

If I was starting a new back court, I'd go with Foye. He has much better PG skills, same size, and is probably a bit better of a defender.

If I'm picking one to put next to BRoy, I go with Bayless. Roy handles many of the PG duties. The SG plays PG and the PG plays SG, then on the defensive end they guard the guy closer to their size.

Bayless looks superb so far, but that's just summer league. I would still pick him over Foye though...

Foye easily, what has Bayless done in an actual NBA game? If Portland hadn't
traded Rush for Bayless, blazer fans would be saying Rush > McGrady
and that Bayless was only a project but since the trade, Rush < Matt Carroll
and Bayless > Deron.

What are you talking about guy? No Blazers fans are ripping on Rush. I really like Rush and would have been alright if we had kept him, but Im ecstatic that we got Bayless because hes the perfect fit on our team. AND, if you read the OP, you would have seen that it said "Assuming Foye has never played in the NBA (still in college), and he is in the same draft as Bayless and are coming out the same year, as a prospect, who would you take?".. That has nothing to do with Bayless not doing anything in the NBA yet

If the two were the age they were when they were drafted I take Foye. Slightly bigger, much more physical, if we're judging them by PG merits, he's got the edge there too. Bayless, imo would be viewed as the more explosive scorer and possibly as having a higher overall ceiling.

I saw Foye play in Vegas right before his rookie year, and I saw Bayless play in Vegas this year. They had a lot of similarities to their games, but IMO Foye was more impressive. Bayless had the quickness to get to the rim and score/draw fouls just about every time down the court against summer league competition, but he did not do a lot of other things offensively (in fairness, he didn't have to). Foye displayed the same quickness/driving ability in Vegas, but he also showed slightly more passing ability and diversity to his game. And physically, his size and strength make him a bit more versatile as a rebounder and defender of larger players. One can't discount that Bayless is younger so thus has the time to develop physically and as a player by the time he reaches Foye's age, but I'd have gone with the more NBA-ready of the two which IMO would have been Foye.

Bayless is a bit small and is going to struggle as a PG. If he were not being teamed up with Roy people would vote Foye all day. He is a SG in a PGs body. Foye has the size to play either position. Foye's a beast, he's a dog, he's the mutha fookin problem.

yeah...there seems to be some foye-inflation going on in this thread.

at Orlando, Foye was measured as being 1/2' taller and 8 pounds heavier. Both players had the same standing reach of 8'1". They both had a 38" max vertical jump. Foye beat Bayless in the bench press 14 to 10, but Bayless was faster in the 3/4 court sprint 3.07 vs 3.23.

There's not a lot to choose between the 2, and those saying Foye is much bigger and stronger are simply exaggerating.

coming out of college like the OP said I'd probably go Bayless. However, Foye has proven himself in the league to a significant degree and may very well have better traditional PG skills. He also has suffered a major injury and missed more then half a season.

this one is too close to call and I doubt either team would consider a straight-up exchange.

I can understand taking out the age in a comparison but that really devalues the fact that Bayless produced as a freshmen where Foye college numbers were as a junior (I think?)
