I think in general great bench players are often forgotten

Ben Gordon was a gifted scorer
Travis best off the bench for the pacers
Andrew toney was a real good scorer, though not off the bench
Dell Curry
Ricky Pierce

Nobody will ever believe Isaiah Thomas was as good as he was

John Johnson claimed the point forward position way before many players who are now associated with that role but he's not commonly recognized as a pioneer.
Gordon Haywood, Dwayne Wade, JJ Reddick, Derek Rose, Derrick Fisher, Lenny Wilkins, Kirk Heinrich, Oscar Robinson, DeMar DeRozen, Andre Iguadola, Pascal Siakim, Malcolm Brogdan

That's an amazing mention! John Johnson is one of the most skilled passers I've ever seen that never, ever gets recognition. I think I have to make a video about him at some point.

"Point forward" means bringing the ball upcourt as well to me. I tried to make him PG-eligible in a retro computer league i'm in and the other guy said "he never brought the ball upcourt" and didn't argue with him.

That's true, he didn't handle the ball much. He was outstanding passer though, one of the best ever at finding cutters to be honest.

Good point. Yet another example of '70s basketball getting unfairly overlooked.

Speaking of those Sonics, it's kind of disrespectful that they're viewed as some starless team that overachieved. They went to back-to-back Finals and were buiit around two Hall of Famers in DJ and Sikma. In the rare moments they're actually talked about, people act like they're the 2015 Hawks.

came here to post Sleepy Sam

another guy who was not a great player but who was for a couple years very good but nobody ever mentions is Anthony Parker. When he came back from being 2x consecutive Euroleague MVP he shot 48/44/84 with excellent defense on the Raptors. He'd be a very valuable player in today's game.

sometimes i wonder if players witj common names are much less memorable that similar caliber players with easier to remember/more unique names

John Johnson sounds like a made up name in 2k

Not to mention they made 1980 WCF as well. They were basically 1970s version of Bad Boy Pistons, but nobody ever compares them.

Among all Sonics key players, only DJ isn't underrated and that's because he played on Celtics team (the same can be said about Silas, though he's lesser known). Gus, Sikma, Shelton, JJ and Brown were all really good players.

Loved BG7 since his days at uconn. Very clutch performer for the bulls during his time with them.

I'm on a Pete Maravich kick right now. That guy was amazing.

Toney and Pierce were legit studs, Gordon and Curry good but not quite as good, Best not as one dimensional as Pierce, Gordon, or Curry but didn't do any thing as well as they did their one trick.

Maravich not a guy that impresses me. You want a forgotten guy that reminds me of Maravich (not the scorer but monster playmaker with no defense) but has been forgotten by everyone how about Ernie DiGregorio. Not the OP because not the best but maybe the White Chocolate of his day?

rashard lewis and antawn Jamisom were good players for a while

15 000 and 18 000 career points respectively, not too shabby
