Peak giannis or garnett

Post#61 » by MyUniBroDavis » Thu Apr 28, 2022 3:07 pm

The other topic was interesting and I felt people were pretty split 50-50 lol

I’d probably say giannis for me, although that’s most since I view 2021 giannis as 2020 giannis but not as optimized on defense (I read about it somewhere on bball index or a cranjis article), and I don’t think the gap between 2020 giannis and 2004 garnett (if there even is one, Idk what EPM says but I know LEBRON has 2020 giannis over 2010 bron, although obvious caveats and it being a rate stat means lebrons actual impact was higher even according to that) and of course he had an absurd playoff run and an absolutely ATG finals, and I do way post season more

On a side note I’d be curious to see how impact stats beyond those view giannis’s 2020 year compared to Garnett’s. I know LEBRON and PIPM rated him as absolutely incredible that year, whereas the two rapm sources I could find one had him behind Kawhi at 2nd and the other he was first

One year peak it is debatable as KG has a 2004 outlier.
4 year peak, they are not in the same league. KG can pick 4 best seasons from his career and they do not compare with Giannis' past 4 consecutive years.

is not that more about team talent? most of garnett peak arguably happened in barren talent situations

To me KG has slight edge over Giannis but it is overshadowed by Giannis' scoring edge. It is hard to argue whichever angle you look at them, raw stats, per game, per 100, per 36, advanced stats, personal accolades, team results... Giannis is just a more dominate player.

I will take peak Giannis. KG is probably the most overrated player on realgm.
