Where does Curry rank with Title and Finals MVP?

Post#1 » by Matt15 » Mon May 23, 2022 6:36 am

Where would you rank Curry if the Warriors win the Finals and he wins Finals MVP?

He's going to be hard to leave out of the top 20.

This season makes him catching up top 15 to me (right now have him at 19th spot). I can see him finishing in Malone/West/Julius tier, ahead of Dirk and Robinson

Nice to hear it, especially from you. Could you write your TOP11-15?

I don’t know yet, but at 34y old he looks really really good. Peaked at the right time, defence is the best in his career, less prone to turnovers and better offence control as PG. really nice!!!

Sure:

11. Oscar Robertson
12. Larry Bird
13. Kobe Bryant
14. Karl Malone
15. Jerry West

With another such strong season, he'd surpass Kobe in my opinion and be right there with Bird. I'm starting to reevaluate Curry vs Bird for primes and I'm not sure anymore who was better. 2013-19 + 2021-22 vs 1980-88 + 1990 is a close debate, with Bird getting the edge for durability.

He'd be in that Julius or West range, mid teens, I think.
This place is a cesspool of mindless ineptitude, mental decrepitude, and intellectual lassitude. I refuse to be sucked any deeper into this whirlpool of groupthink sewage. My opinions have been expressed. I'm going to go take a shower.

.

About Curry durability. Look at Curry 12 and 20 seasons from tanking perspective. These injuries wasn’t season ending injuries, he missed games to save pick from Utah in 2012 and for Wiseman in 2020. He would play in all others circumstances.

Maybe, but he still didn't play and it has to be taken into account. Besides, his missed games in 2016 playoffs and whole 2018 season also are big question marks as well.

I'd probably slot him in my top 15.

His playoff run is a bit underrated at the moment.

His shooting splits are not that different from his playoff runs bar 2017.

He's also getting better and better with each passing game lately. I could see him having a monster finals to secure that elusive finals MVP.

As everyone else is saying, mid teens.

At 11-15, I have:

11. Larry Bird
12. Dirk Nowitzki
13. Jerry West
14. Oscar Robertson
15. Kevin Garnett

If he plays like he has the last two games all the way through to a title, maybe he'll fall somewhere from 13-15. Tbh I'd really have to think about reasons not to have him 13. After this he'd have 10 prime seasons of 2013-19, 2021-22. West and Oscar arguably have 11-12. Curry has the better peak, and prime. I'd have to really think about whether those extra couple of seasons from the older guys negates Steph's extra career value.

He is definitely jumping David Robinson and Chris Paul for me. Maybe Kobe and West as well.

I think he moves up a spot or two. I don't think his career value is quite top 15 yet. And I'm not going to ring count to justify getting him there.

Looking at the Top 100 list from 2020, I'd imagine you'd have to slide him in front of at least Moses and Barkley, moving him up to 22 (I'd probably do the same for CP3 and KD at this point too). Hard to compare him with Mikan though, but all things considered I'd give Curry the benefit of the doubt there.

Comparing him to peers, I'd say he's passed KD at this point for me, especially if he finishes this playoff run at his recent pace. CP3 is a tougher one for me though as he was really great last year and also this year until the last 5-6 games. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt there too as I think it's inevitable Curry has more career value left than Paul.

So that puts him 19th behind Dr and DRob, which I guess is probably about right? I'd actually probably push him ahead of DRob but not Dr at this point but depending on how he actually plays it could go either way there.

That's 9 seasons, not 10.

West and Oscar arguably have 11-12.

If you count 2013 for Curry, then I'd say both West and Oscar have at worst 11 (1961-71 for Oscar, 1962-72 for West). 1973 for both could be also included. So yeah, 11-12 is fair, which is 2 more seasons at very strong all-nba level.

Curry has the better peak, and prime. I'd have to really think about whether those extra couple of seasons from the older guys negates Steph's extra career value.

I think it's quite arguable if his prime was better. Care to elaborate?

Curry benefits from this of course but this season is doing a lot more to move up Dray for me than Curry. The Warriors defensive performance this year is staggering.
