Yep this was my first thought. Nice pick for sure.

I gotta say: It was hard picking Bird over Magic for me.

Ugh, I just remembered someone who I have only picked for his first two seasons. I strongly doubt he'll last 'til I pick again. Too late

With the 9th Pick in the All Time Fantasy Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers select:

Image

Tim Duncan, 2002-2003, 17.2 FGA/G
MVP, FMVP, All-NBA First Team, All-Defensive First Team, All Star
RS: 22.3 PTS on 56.4 TS%, 12.4 TRB, 3.1 AST, 0.9 STL, 2.7 BLK, 112 ORTG, 94 DRTG, 26.9 PER, .248 WS/48, +7.4 BPM
PS: 24.7 PTS on 57.7 TS%, 15.4 TRB, 5.3 AST, 0.6 STL, 3.3 BLK, 116 ORTG, 92 DRTG, 28.4 PER, .279 WS/48, +11.6 BPM

I think most people remember this year, but I'll say it anyway. Simply put, this is one of the top 10 peaks of all time - he was an absolute monster at both ends of the floor, and dragged a pretty poor Spurs team to a Championship. Defensively he's still very mobile at this stage, able to play the PnR very well as well as protect the rim, and as always he's an elite communicator and defensive rebounder. As a playmaker, he can facilitate from low and high post and on handoffs on the perimeter, as well as being an excellent screener. As a scorer, he isn't a force of nature like Shaq or Wilt, or as refined as peak Dream, but he's still capable of being a primary threat with gravity, is efficient and relatively low turnover (12.9 TO% in both RS and PS), and offers some spacing when played as a modern-era C (48%/49% 3-10 feet, 43%/41% 10-16, and was 47% from 16-23 in the playoffs). And he's one of the greatest leaders ever to play - his intangibles push him over the top.

He'll anchor my defense and be my primary inside scorer, and allow my shooters and slashers to get great looks. And his playoff campaign of that year puts him into ridiculous territory - only 4 players ever have a single season 11+ BPM for 500+ postseason minutes (MJ x3, LBJ x2, KAJ), and all the others did it on stratospheric usage (32.7% to 36.4%). Duncan's usage was 26.4%. To be THAT impactful and still leave room for another big usage player (in this case Wade) is very rare, and I'm delighted to have it on my team.

I guess I can go now?

With the 10th (I think) draft in the All-time fantasy draft, theonlyclutch selects:
Kareem Abdul-Jabaar, 1979-1980, 16.9 FGA/G
Elite volume scorer with decent range, doesn't take big FGA and also happens to be a great passer, good on defense as well (lead league in blocks), also, Skyhook is as OP as Saitama's punch..

I'm almost certain i'll be assigning him his 1979-80 season, but I want to be completely sure.

Just a question about this draft, what if a player clearly is more talented one year than the next, but it doesent show because of bad coaching?

It's all up to the interpretation of the judging, if someone clearly has bad coaching it would most likely be understood

I noticed you said Bird would've been #1 for you; probably the same for Magic with me (may have taken Shaq, not sure).

I just love the possibilities Magic opens up in the modern game. A guy who can run both ends of the pick and roll, kill smaller guys in the post, and blow by bigger guys off the dribble is just unfair. His special kind of interior playmaking coupled with all the shooting makes me drool.

Bird is an awesome pick as well, and it's crazy to think how great he'd be without a hesitation on his trigger finger. He and Magic are kindred spirits, and ironically I think both would be a lot better today than they were then, which is scary to think about.

I only have about 20 names on the list of players I want to choose, so I might as well start picking them now

Is the list still around for the order cause I'm confused who to link next. All I see is a creed logo instead of the randomized list. :(
The Greatest of All Time debate in basketball is essentially who has the greatest basketball resume of the player who has the best highlights instead of who is the best player

I know this is a very minor quibble, and I know it's the first Google image result that features him on the court, but I would have picked a better photo
