For back up guard, I'll take Ron Harper.

With my penultimate pick of this draft I am delighted to add a top 20 all-time player, a top 25 peak, a 1st team all-defensive center, an MVP, a Finals MVP, and the greatest championship catchphrase in league history, Fo' Fo' Fo':

With their 7th pick, Doctor MJ's brothers from other mothers select...

Raja Bell, '02-03
A brief explanation is in order with the year chosen.
This is the first time, and hopefully only time, in this draft I'm choosing something other than arguably the best year of the player in question. Obviously I wouldn't do this if I weren't considering the FGA limit, but there's a reason why I'm doing this with Raja Bell.
The thing about Bell is that he isn't someone who became a 3 & D guy in the NBA like Bruce Bowen. With Bell, that's how he got to the league, inch by inch gaining more and more opportunities as he went. Repeatedly Bell would get singled out by people who saw that he could play first in the NBA, and then in greater roles in the NBA. The issue wasn't that they imagined him as their 3 & D starter but that the concept didn't exist back then. Pop was doing it with Bowen, but this wasn't a celebrated thing yet, and even those championing Bell didn't think he could actually become an NBA starter playing this way.
Of course he did, finally and definitively in Phoenix in '05-06, at age 29.
But I would argue that it wasn't really that he "figured it out" that year. He was basically doing this in the years before, including in '02-03 at age 26..when he first played with Nash, with whom he has a synergy with that is legendary.
And interestingly, since I expect Bell to play as a backup for me, it's actually quite logical to take him at a time when he played backup minutes.

My guy is still avaialable luckily, so that's great. The first current player I'll pick will give me someone who can fill in the minutes at PG and SG, has a reliable 3, can play on and off ball, all while being a member of the All-Defensive 1st Team.
With my 7th round selection I'm taking Marcus Smart.

The issue with per75 numbers;
36pts on 27 fga/9 fta in 36 mins, does this mean he'd keep up the efficiency to get 48pts on 36fga/12fta in 48 mins?
The answer; NO. He's human, not a linearly working machine.
Per75 is efficiency rate, not actual production.

Steal of the 7th round - I select my shutdown defender who happened to be also excellent offensive player - Sidney Moncrief

My last pick is tough, I need some shooting off the bench and you can't find much better shooters than J.J. Redick

Every team needs this kind of impact player, both on the court and off the court. A true locker room leader and impact player Nick Collison.

I will go with a veteran who came to the United States to play basketball at the age of 35. He is a smart defender, great set-up shooter and understands the dynamics of his role to a T.

Re: PC Board Post-Merger Draft - Draft Thread (Clock changed to starting tomorrow at 9 AM)
I only need a back up center to complete my roster. When 4x DPOY and 6x All-Defensive Ben Wallace is going to bench he'll be replaced by a 1x DPOY and 4x All-Defensive player. I'm making sure I'm protecting the paint the full 48 minutes.
After drafting Marcus Smart I'm going to double down on the Marcus name and draft Marcus Camby with my 8th and final pick.

I need a tough defensive backup 5 who can give me 8-10 mins of quality rim protection. I'm going with Joel Anthony.

I need a big man to back up Shaq. I'll take Aron Baynes, a great defender and he's even a passable 3pt shooter so I can play him next to Shaq in a pinch if necessary.
