Not sure how to contextualize how well he’s been playing.

I’ve never seen someone make it look this easy on offense.

last two games have been underwhelming. i didn't even think he was capable of a game like he played last night in a loss.

getting tired? or just a little off-stretch?

Only human and has off games sometimes. He also has those nights where he's not really looking for his own shot much. It is just the rs afterall. No one remembers the games where MJ went 8-25 and scored 18 pts now but they happened.

He was great against the Bulls, but yeah the Timberwolves game was legit his worst game of the season. Knicks game was stinky

SGA is getting the MVP this year. Jokic probably deserves it but voter fatigue is a thing.

One wonders. Voter fatigue mattered only so much for Jordan, for Kareem, for Wilt and for Russell. And Kareem had 5 of his 6 MVPs before winning his second title and last MVP in Magic's rookie year. Or Moses Malone winning 3 times in 5 years. Or Lebron winning 4 times in 5 years.

So what's different for Jokic?

What’s different? Russell, Wilt and Kareem won their MVP’s when players voted for the award. The first year the media voted for MVP was 1980-81. Voter fatigue by the media is real. Jokic’s the best player in the league and having his best season but he’s stale. SGA hasn’t won it yet and has a better storyline this year. It’s like Jordan in ‘97: best player on the best team but it was Karl Malone’s time. Same this year. It’s SGA’s time cause Jokic already has three.

Alcindor, Wilt and Russell won when the players were voting. A different game.
jordon lost the 97 MVP due to voter fatigue, 100%

My two cents on this: I don’t think that voter fatigue is necessary to explain why SGA seems likely to win MVP. The Thunder are on pace to win 68 games, and even that undersells how good they’ve been. When one of the top few players in the NBA is on a team that wins that many games, they virtually always win the MVP award. It doesn’t really matter that much in that scenario whether they’re *really* the best player in the league. We have seen this many seasons—for instance, Dirk in 2007, Harden in 2018, Moses in 1983, etc. It’s not really clear that any of those guys were actually the best player in the NBA at the time, but they were definitely one of the top few guys and their teams had amazing seasons, so they won MVP easily. There’s exceptions where this did not happen. Jordan in 1997 is perhaps the best example. But, in general, we should presume that if a top 3 player’s team has a season like this, that player will get MVP. I think even if Jokic had never won an MVP award before, SGA would still be the favorite. The example of 1997 suggests that maybe if the shoe were on the other foot—and SGA had won multiple MVPs and Jokic had not won any—that maybe Jokic would be in a position to win. But I think in a neutral scenario with no voter fatigue, SGA would be the favorite. And that’s true even if we think that Jokic actually is the league’s best player.
